𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨.

"This world, it's dark.

"This world, it's scary."

The instruments played throughout the small area, and the crowd listened to District 12's first victor, Lucy Gray Baird, winner of the 10th Hunger Games.

"You're as pure as the driven snow."

Kakalina Anela stood front row, swaying along to the slow song. She looked up at her friend, proud that she was able to make it out alive, and keep putting on performances.

"Everyone wants to be like a hero."

Lucy Gray looked down at her friend, smiling. She was happy. Lucy's attention was driven away from the crowd and looked at a specific somebody.

"Doing's hard work, but it takes some to change things."

"Like goat's milk to butter, like ice blocks to water."

"This world goes blind when children are dying."

"I turn into dust, but you never stop trying. It's why I love you."

"You're as pure as the driven snow."

"Something bad has happened." The boy ran his fingers through his black curls. He was sweating a lot, his eyes were full of fear and worry.

"What happened?" The woman comforted him, gently grabbing onto his bicep to stop him from pulling at his hair. "Sejanus?" She had no idea what was going on, but her lover wasn't able to stop thinking about something, and it scared her.

"Coriolanus- he killed someone. Then the other person killed another one right in front of me!" His breathing was extremely rapid. "They killed the mayor's daughter and Lucy Gray's-" Sejanus took a deep breath in and out, and hugged Kakalina.

"Sejanus? You're scaring me." She hugged him back. "What are you going to do?"

"They will be after me, Lina." He gripped her shoulders and looked down at the District 12 girl. "You must leave."

"Where would I go? I have no money. District 12 is my only home."

"I sent a word to my father, he's going to get you out of here. He's going to move you into another district with some money."

"What about our son?" Kakalina cried, and Sejanus paused. Sejanus lowered his hands onto her stomach and she put her hands atop his. "What about our family?" 

Tears ran down the young woman's face, he wiped away her tears with his finger.

"You're not safe as long as you're with me," Sejanus said. Suddenly, the door above them was knocked over, and yelling was heard. Sejanus quickly laid his lips on Kakalina's, and quietly pushed her into a closet, closing the door.

Kakalina watched through a crack in the door as her lover was taken away from her. Once it was quiet, she left the cabin. She followed them out the door to the hanging tree, pushing her way through the crowd.

"Lucy Gray!" Kakalina said in a whisper. The brunette turned to see her best friend.

"Lina, what are they doing with him?" Lucy Gray grabbed onto her friend's arm, and they watched as they put a rope around the neck of Sejanus Plinth. 

Sejanus called to his friend, Corio, who stood watching over the crowd in his peacekeeper uniform. Lucy Gray and Kakalina watched as the trapdoor dropped, instantly killing the men that stood over them. Kakalina buried her head into Lucy Gray's shoulder, as Lucy Gray looked ahead with disgust.

The Mockingjays sung tunes of screams and fear above them, copying the sounds and cries of Sejanus Plinth, who hung dead.

Kakalina was dragged out of the crowd a moment later by Lucy Gray. She took the two of them to a field, one of the few pretty parts of their district.

"What happened, Lina?" Kakalina collapsed after that question was asked, no words escaped her mouth, just sobs. 

"Sejanus said Coriolanus killed someone." Lucy Gray's expression dropped, but she had a knowing expression, Kakalina didn't see. "Someone must've told them, the mayor, the peacekeepers."

"Lucy Gray, Sejanus didn't do anything! He only wanted to help people!" Kakalina cried and Lucy Gray comforted the girl.

"What will you do with the baby?" Lucy Gray quietly asked. She was the only one that the crying woman told other than Sejanus.

"Sejanus said he told his father about me. I'm going to move districts, stay low." Kakalina wiped her tears away. "Come with me."

"You know I can't." Lucy Gray frowned, and Kakalina nodded slightly, sighing. 

The two friends sat in silence. Lucy Gray hummed her songs, and Kakalina joined in quietly. 

"Roses are red, love; violets are blue."

"Birds in the heaven know I love you."

"Know I love you, oh, know I love you."

"Birds in the heavens know I love you."
