this is such a long chapter i apologize
It wasn't helping Juniper Plinth's case with Finnick Odair when during the last day of trainings, he saw her working with Cashmere and Gloss. He noticed how Gloss seemed close to Juniper, he eyed her, smiled at her, put his hands on her shoulders. Although he argued with Lennox Hale about this exact situation last night, it still set him off. He believed her to be a career, she could betray them at any given moment.
However, he couldn't help but stealing a few glances at her every now and then, which didn't go unnoticed by Johanna Mason. Finnick had only been with Johanna the past few minutes- it was almost the end of training, which meant evaluations were next. Finnick's mind was hardly thinking about that right now, though.
"You know, you're not allowed to kill tributes before the games, right?" Johanna laughed, scrolling through some of the survival section information. She speeded through it, not really caring. She had seen it all before.
"I'm not going to kill anyone." Finnick said, turning to her. A small moment of silence sat between the two friends, until Finnick glanced to the side, looking at Plinth talking to District 1. Juniper nudged Gloss with her elbow after he seemed to make a joke, he made her laugh.
"Really?" Johanna laughed. "I think if you could shoot tridents out of your eye sockets, Gloss would be dead by now."
"Who said I'm jealous of Gloss?" The words slipped out of his mouth immediately as he turned to Johanna- not realizing what he had said at first.
"I never said you were jealous." Johanna said. "Are you?"
"No. Why would I be... jealous?" A hint of disgust left his tone when saying the final word. "I have no reason to be."
"Well, you're the one that mentioned it. Not me." Johanna shrugged, but a playful smirk laid on her face as she glanced at Finnick again- whom tried to hide where he was looking. "Need some binoculars?"
Johanna laughed silently to herself as she saw Finnick cross his arms and cold stare down at her. She wasn't phased.
"Have you thought about our offer?" Cashmere asked, moving back to the topic of the games.
"Having you on our side would really help." Gloss added on. Juniper shifted her stance uncomfortably. Juniper was having a nice conversation with the two siblings, but was brought back to the reality that they would need to kill one another or watch each other die.
Juniper briefly looked to the right. She saw Finnick hovering over Johanna as she worked at the survival section. Finnick looked tense for some reason, she couldn't sense why. All of a sudden, Marina Odairs laughter filled her head and her ears.
