24. Hate You

"Why did you do it?"

There was no answer Avneet could give at the moment. No excuse, no explanation, nothing. Her mind was running in all the directions possible.

Siddharth glanced at her and could only see Avneet sobbing softly while looking down.

He clenched his jaw.

He was done with Avneet always trying to play victim. Maybe that wasn't Avneet's intention but how is he supposed to shout at her when she's crying so hard?

"Avneet!", he yelled, "Don't you want to say anything in your defense?"

Avneet flinched and shook her head. "I d-don't want to say anything.", she mumbled.

Siddharth scoffed. "Won't you tell me why the fuck did you do all of this? Huh?", he asked, "Don't you think I deserve an explanation for why the hell did you keep me away from our son."

"I-I did all this b-because of you!", Avneet replied and Siddharth feels this sudden urge to slap Avneet again.

"Oh, for God's sake, Avneet!", he growled, "If you're talking about our talk on the day you told me you were pregnant, then God help me. I'm gonna get you a good psychiatrist."

He walked closer to Avneet and holds her chin with his fingers, jerking her head up.

"Look into my eyes, Avneet. Do you really mean it when you say it was because of me?", he asks, his teary eyes boring into her puffy, red eyes.

Avneet shakes her head contradicting the words coming out of her lips. "Yes!"

"Avneet!", Siddharth gritted his teeth, clasping Avneet's upper arms in his hands and jerking her forward. "Tell me why the fuck-", he took a deep breath to calm himself,

"Why the fuck would you lie to me about your abortion when you knew, don't even try to deny that you didn't, that I wasn't against the idea anymore. Huh?"

"No, you're l-lying." Avneet shakes her head, "You were going to say same things as you did on that day!"

"Avneet! Shut up!", Siddharth snapped, he was losing his temper now.

"You clearly know I was going to listen to you anyways. You were well aware of how much power you held over me."

Avneet's eyes snapped to him. "W-what are you saying?", she asked wide-eyed.

"Avneet... You knew I loved you too much.", Siddharth scoffed. "I would have done anything for you."

"You're wron—"

"Did you not once think about Ishaan? Maybe you hated me for whatever reason you made up but why him!?", Siddharth cried out,
"Why my son? My baby?"

Avneet went speechless. She honestly, ashamedly, never thought about that before giving birth to Ishaan. She did what she wanted to.

She knew Ishaan needed his other parent as well. She knew. But she did nothing about it.

"What was his fault? He's just three, barely four! Why does he have to suffer because of our mistakes? Why, Avneet? WHY?"

"I- I don't know.", Avneet stuttered in reply.

"Maybe I had been insensitive when I said that we shouldn't--" Siddharth doesn't even have the courage to say, 'Abortion' right now. God, no. He can't even imagine Ishaan not existing in this world. "I'm—", he let out a sob.

"Why, Avneet? Why? Why did you do it? WHY?", he asked between controlling his sobs.

"N-no, it's not my fault. Y-you -You left me. It's your fault! All yours!", the younger exclaimed, panting, in disbelief, as she pointed an accusing finger to Siddharth.
