Surprise...
a double update....

42. Parenting is Tough

Siddharth sleepily slapped away the thing that was constantly trying to wake him up by touching his face. By the feels of it, his sleepy brain concluded that it must be Ishaan's hand 'cause it so soft and small.

"Dada! Dada! Wake up!"

Siddharth groaned turning his head away in a different direction. He, obviously, slept late and moreover he cried so much so he felt like his head was going to burst.

"Baby, not now." He groaned.

Ishaan who was actually trying to wake him up, fruitlessly so, from more than five minutes, pouted.

"But Dada... Ishaan wanna go to mumma.", he whined while jumping on his back and hugged his head.

Siddharth let out a muffled sigh into the pillow, feeling suffocated by the pressure on Ishaan's whole body on his head.

"Okay okhay."

Ishaan instantly jumped away from him, excitedly clapping his hand in victory. The older inhaled the much needed air.

"Baby...", he then asked confused after taking a moment to blink his eyes open. "Why didn't you go to your mumma yourself?"

Well, Ishaan usually woke up and walked to Avneet's room on his own because Avneet always left the door wide open for him to enter.

"Mumma door closhe." the boy explained with a pout.

Siddharth sighed exasperatedly and then groggily sat up with his messy hair that looked like a birds nest making Ishaan chuckle and touch them.

Siddharth let out a lazy, half hearted smile and picked the boy up and walking to Avneet's room after realizing that it was his mistake for having slammed the door after running out of the room.

The boy kept humming some random song while he giggled constantly and scratched Siddharth's hair softly as if he was some dog. He even pulled them softly watching it bounce just for the fun of it. It did hurt Siddharth but he was too sleepy and lazy to react other than a few muscle pulls of his face.

Siddharth immediately dropped the boy near a sleeping Avneet on the bed before instantly dumping his own body on the bed, taking another pillow to cuddle and fall asleep again.

Meanwhile our Ishaan immediately woke Avneet up by shaking her.

The brunette whined but begrudgingly opened her eyes and smiled at the boy who was smiling brightly.

She then turned to look at Siddharth questionably who was sleeping like a log with a parted mouth with little snores falling out of his lips and rolled her eyes.

"Why mumma door closhed?"

Avneet made a pout at the question. "I'm sorry, baby. I must've forgotten to open it before sleeping."

The boy instantly seemed to buy her apology and then plopped on her chest. "Ishaan saw a bwutterfly."

"In your dreams?"

The boy nodded at her. "Yesh, it was very prwetty and it wash blue! And a dog-"

Avneet yawned as she nodded at the boy's colorful narration of his dreams which made little to no sense but nevermind, she had to do certain things as a parent.

"Are you sleepy, Ishaan?", Avneet asked when she saw the boy yawn.

"Nuu." The boy stubbornly shook his head.

Avneet huffed. One thing she couldn't understand was how her child always ended up becoming a morning person on the days she wanted to sleep in.

Like, it was usually so hard waking him up on the days he has to go to the school or when Avneet has some work but, God, when she ever thought that she would sleep in, Ishaan woke up at the first ray of the sun.

"No, you're sleepy. Sleep!", Avneet insisted hugging him and hiding him in the comforter and patting his back.

The boy whined for a few minutes before Avneet glared and shushed him up and eventually the boy fell asleep listening to his mumma hum him softly, making Avneet sigh in relief.

She closed her own eyes tiredly and fell asleep not a minute later.

Parenting is tough. Siddharth thought as he looked at Avneet with half open eyes who was now sleeping with Ishaan.

He himself found it so difficult to stay awake when Ishaan woke him up but he saw how Avneet woke up and even entertained their son while she was super tired and sleepy.

It was quite fascinating for him to see how parenting has changed Avneet.

Siddharth, as someone who knew Avneet for a long time and thoroughly, knew Avneet loves to sleep. She hated when someone disturbed her sleep and it was so hard to wake her up from a sleep.

But now, he can see how patient and caring she has become.
She didn't snap.
She didn't scold.
She didn't even whine much just like Siddharth himself had when the boy woke him up. Rather he just dumped Ishaan on Avneet who was equally, if not more tired, as him.

As a father, he shouldn't have.

After the last night's talk, he did reflect on a few things in his behavior he never noticed. He didn't know where he went wrong.

He often asked himself, where did it all go wrong? Now, looking back, he notices a few to many important things which he was ignorant about all this while.

Also, it looked like he had to learn how to be a good father figure for Ishaan.

He leaned down and pecked his son's head. "Dada's sorry,
my baby." Promising silently to be that person someday that his son could share his silly morning dreams with.
