The cell biology practical lab was nearly halfway through done when the door opened loudly, grabbing the attention of the eleven people sitting inside.
"Mr. Yoon," Professor Jung, who runs the cell biology lab at Sebong, spoke, "Glad to see you have finally decided to make an appearance."
Jeonghan barely spared a smile at the Professor as he stepped in, letting the door of the lab slide shut behind him.
Professor Jung looked over the class once and spotted the empty seat next to Emily, who already knew what is to come next.
"You can go partner up with Emily since everyone else has already chosen a partner for themselves," Professor told Jeonghan, who gave the professor a brief nod and walked over to Emily, who was sitting alone in the very last row.
Emily had been on her way to class fairly early when she had ended up running in Joo-hyuck, who was on his way out of practice, and ended up chatting with him longer than she expected. She arrived to class only five minutes later but it was already too late; everyone else had partnered up. Her usual partner thought Emily isn't coming due the tournament and signed up with someone else, leaving Emily alone. The professor did provide Emily with option of joining a group and form a trio but she decided to just work alone.
That is until Jeonghan walked in.
Before she even knew it, Emily was creating space for Jeonghan on the counter, clearing her bag and belongings off the other chair.
"What are we doing?" Jeonghan asked in a low voice.
"Analyzing and calculating the protein," Emily answered, she gestured to the different petri dishes on the lab counter.
Jeonghan nodded putting away his bag and taking off his jacket.
"Why are you alone?" He asked in a low, raspy voice. The type of voice when you have a sore throat.
"I came a bit late. Everyone else was taken," Emily answered, not really looking at him and peeking through the microscope on the petri dish.
She paused, wondering for a second, before asking, "Why are you late?"
"Stuff," Jeonghan answered and his tone also answered that he won't be providing any more detail other than that. Not that Emily was any more curious either. She supposes she just asked out or courtesy.
He gestured towards the large microscope under which the petri dish is currently being examined and said in a low voice, "Can I?"
Emily understood and shifted to the side, letting Jeonghan take a look. He got to work fairly quickly, catching up rapidly as Emily mostly examined the petri dish and ran out descriptions while Jeonghan did the calculations quickly, which isn't a surprise given out good he is with numbers. Occasionally when he saw that Emily looked a bit lost, he repeated himself slowly, again and again until he was sure Emily understood the calculations properly.
Emily was a bit confused but Jeonghan's hospitable behavior. For the past couple of months he has usually retorted to either ignoring or taunting every time her saw her so this very friendly behavior has taken her off guard. It reminds her off the time just before they began dating, when he used to be extra sweet and romantic with her.
Well...that is if Jeonghan even considered them to be in a relationship, which she seriously doubts.
Despite Jeonghan's delayed entry in class, the two ended up finishing their work before everyone else and Professor Jung gave them permission to clean up and leave class earlier.
Jeonghan put away the microscope as Emily cleared out the other appliances and when he returned, he spoke in such a low voice that Emily very nearly missed what he said.
