The bomb dropped exactly two days later and five days before the competition Yejune is supposed to participate in.
It was a Friday afternoon, right before a four day weekend due to national holidays. Emily was swimming all morning as she had no classes on Fridays and then did some core cardio training in the afternoon before attending the student council meeting. She didn't particularly care about the student council meetings but had to still attend as she is required too.
Emily entered the meeting room to still find it half empty, as the rest of the council members were still incoming. Jinyoung looks up upon hearing Emily walk in and said, "Hi."
Emily gives him a small smile and said, "Hi,"
She puts down her bag on an empty seat next to Rosé, who is engaged in a very intense conversation with Nayeon. As Emily sat down and took out her water bottle, few more members of the student council walk in, slowly settling themselves in, until only two members were left for the meeting to begin. Finally. Namjoon and Jackson walk in, also engaged in a conversation together.
Upon seeing Emily, Jackson makes a beeline straight towards her and loudly says, "Damn Em. I didn't know you were this feisty."
Emily shoots him a confused look as she briefly glanced at the curios gazes she is getting from everyone else. Jackson had pretty much spoken so loud that everyone in the room heard it and the way he phrased his sentence made it sound as if he is talking about something dirty.
"What are you talking about?" Emily said, also speaking loud enough so everyone in the room is on the same page as her.
Jackson smirks with a knowing smile and said, "Come on. Stop acting dumb. You know what you did."
Emily slowly shook her head as she racked her brain to think of all the possibilities that could indicate what Jackson is talking about. "I have truly no idea what you're talking about," Emily told him.
Now it is Jackson's turn to give Emily a funny look and say, "Wait...you really don't know?"
Emily shook her head more earnestly.
"Oh," Jackson's mouth went into a little 'o'. He took off his backpack and put it on the table, deep in thought.
"What? What is it?" Emily asked, her curiosity peaked now. Surely he wasn't going to say all that and just let it be.
"Uh-I just heard from Coach that you helped provide evidence for this article?" Jackson mumbled.
"What?" Emily said, frowning, still very confused, "What article?"
"The article reporter Han Minju wrote. The one on the athlete from Seoul National University," Jackson said, still speaking in a low voice.
"What?" Emily repeated herself, hardly believing her ears.
"Yeah...I think you might want to read it. It's quite...interesting," Jackson said, looking as if he is choosing his words wisely.
Emily looked around the room in question, her eyes briefly locking gazes with Jeonghan, who is seated at the other end of the room, before whipping out her phone and searching her name up. Emily has done this a few times, mostly because she still did not believe she has a wikipedia page dedicated to her, but also read opinion polls.
Sure enough, when she searches her Korean name 'Park Eunmi' and scrolls down past the bio, Emily sees an article by SBS which was posted only two hours ago. Emily opens it and her eyes scroll down to read it.
It is a rather long article but the headlines are the first catch.
Top Swimmer from Seoul National University allegedly accused of favoritism and bribery to evade punishments and disciplinary hearings at the National Training Center by Rival.
