It's been thirty minutes since Emily had arrived at the steps of the library, waiting for Jeonghan to come so they can get to their student council task together. And now she is starting to think that maybe Jeonghan isn't planning to show up at all.
Letting out a deep breath, Emily walks up the steps. Clearly Jeonghan is not planning to show up so Emily might as well go in and complete the task anyways. If Jeonghan does not show up, it is a he problem, not hers.
Walking inside, Emily heads over to the librarian's counter and says, "Hi. I'm here from the student council committee."
The librarian, a rather stubborn looking lady in her mid 40s, looks up and says, "Oh...but one of you already came by earlier."
Emily blinks, confused.
"I'm sorry?"
The librarian straighten ups her back and looks at Emily as if she has never seen a bigger idiot than her in her life before.
"One of you already came by. He's in the back," The librarian explains, pointing with her pen towards one end of the library.
"Oh...oh," Emily reacts mindlessly, her eyes following to where the pen is pointing towards. "Right...uh-thank you."
Emily bows her head at the librarian and hurriedly walks in the direction the librarian had previously pointed in. She frowned as she walked.
So Jeonghan is already here?
Why did he not tell her to come earlier?
She wouldn't have sat outside the library like a fool then.
Emily turns around the corner, discovering a smaller room within the library. which she had not even known existed. Sure enough, Emily sees Jeonghan standing dead center of the room, a book in his hand as he appeared engrossed in reading the back cover.
Hearing her footsteps, Jeonghan looks up, noticing Emily before going back to the book in his hand.
"You're here," Jeonghan says.
Emily lets her backpack fall to the floor, setting it aside so its not in the way.
"I would have come earlier but I didn't know you were planning to show up earlier," Emily says and Jeonghan must have picked upon the slight irritation in her voice because he looks up at her and says, "I would have told you earlier but I didn't have a way to contact you. I wanted to get this over with so I can get to soccer practice on time"
"We should exchange contacts with each other," Jeonghan adds when Emily does not say anything.
Taking a brief look around the look, Emily asks, "What should I help with?"
Pointing towards a row of six to eight cardboard boxes lying against the wall, Jeonghan explains, "Ms. Jung wants to get rid of those books because they're worn out. We need to make a note of them and inform the administration so they can order newer ones in."
Emily nods though Jeonghan did not notice as he had gone back to whatever he was doing earlier. Emily is not sure but it appeared to her that Jeonghan had already opened a carton box of books and is working on it.
Emily began to work, taking a book one after another and then writing on a clipboard its serial number, book name and author so they can all be submitted to the council later. It wasn't until she was halfway through the first box that Emily took a break and looks up to the tiny window on the side, which allowed for a small streak of sunlight through, lightning up the otherwise rather dull room.
She briefly glances over Jeonghan, as if suddenly reminded of his presence once again. Jeonghan has been so quite that Emily had nearly forgotten that he is also in the room with her. She had not been expecting him to work so efficiently and in fact, Emily had half expected him to make her do all the work, instead of working harder. Emily had heard through Sebong gossip that Jeonghan is the most clever and smartest out of the holy trinity and the most cunning as well. And while she can see where he is cunning, Emily never really expected him to be a hard worker either.
