"Onions, celery, breadcrumbs. I have cranberries." Katherine thought allowed as she added to her shopping list. "Parker?" She questioned, turning to the young girl by her side. "You wanna make yams with me this year?" She smiled.
"Sure." Parker beamed.
"Me too." Jordan called.
"You're making hush puppies." Parker huffed. "We each make one dish." She argued.
"Okay, well, I will get the yams and you two can duke it out later." Katherine stated, writing them on the list.
"Morning." Nathan and Bex chimed together, rushing into the kitchen in their running gear.
"Morning." Katherine smiled at the two.
"Hey, guys. There's pancakes." George called to the room, serving a stack of pancakes onto the table.
"Just coffee for me. Thanks." Bex smiled, reaching for a mug as Katherine poured coffee for the older kids.
"Didn't you guys run this morning?" Katherine questioned, looking at the two runners.
"Yeah, three miles, even with a headache." Nathan commented.
"Another one?" Katherine questioned, turning to her son with concern.
"Yeah, always happens when it turns cold." Nathan dismissed.
"You definitely need to eat." Katherine commented, handing him a plate for his pancakes.
"Okay." He nodded.
"Hey. These'll work." George cheered, taking the barrels from Cole and Alex as they entered the back door.
"We're gonna brine turkeys in those?" Katherine judged.
"They're 16 pounds. This is all we got." George laughed, placing the barrels in the hall. "Hey, Isaac, you might wanna swap out the leather and get a warmer coat. It's 80% chance of snow today, guys." He stated, taking in Isaacs appearance.
"Sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort for style. Like, this leather jacket says "tough, chill, smooth."" Isaac grinned.
"Frostbite also says "tough," "chill," and "smooth."" George countered.
"Did you hear from our dad? Do you know what time he's calling?" Lee questioned George.
"Yeah, it's at eleven o'clock." George smiled.
"Girls, do you wanna make anything for tomorrow? Everybody makes one dish and then we all add it to the meal." Katherine, asked turning to Bex and Jackie.
"Yeah, one thing." Parker commented, throwing a grape at Jordan.
"Except me." Jordan called back.
"Well, I make two turkeys, obviously." George laughed.
"So if there are any Howard family traditions, I can pick up the ingredients." Katherine offered.
"Yeah, pick your favourite thing." George insisted.
"I'll pass, if that's okay." Jackie quickly stated, turning out of the room. Bex turned, going over to Cole and Danny after sending an apologetic look to the parents.
"You know, I'm beginning to think inviting their Uncle Richard wasn't the best idea." Katherine sighed quietly to George.
"No. No, no, no, honey, it was a great idea. Really. Look, it might be exactly what they need. Okay." George reassured.
"All right, everybody, eat up. We gotta go." Katherine insisted, hurrying the family out the door.
