Sitting across from me, my Mother is watching me with a raised eyebrow as the two of us are just about sitting down for lunch. Though just the two of us because I have something that I have to do and it all boils down to how much my own Mother has faith in me.
So tonight will be an eye-opener.
"You know, (Y/N)," her eyes drop to the menu with a faint smile, "if you are trying to convince me that you are financially stable there are more ways to do that than taking me out to dinner to prove that."
"No... that's not the reason."
I guess I am pretty easy to see through, but I did want to do this and it aligns pretty well with trying to start convincing.
"So there is a reason?" She sets the menu down, smiling with an arched brow I can tell that she probably has a couple dozen ideas running around her head.
"Other than wanting to treat my Mother?"
"Ah." She nods slowly. "So I can enjoy my night without expecting you to try to twist my arm in one way or another?"
"I can't promise that."
With a chuckle, "Rin asked me some time ago if you had any plans past doing what you are already doing. As the all-knowing parent she thought I was, I decided to answer that you have little to no plans other than sitting on your butt for the rest of your life."
I furrow my brow at her. "Like those exact words?"
"Kinda those exact words."
I can't help but laugh with her, "I mean not exactly wrong."
"You know that I don't have a problem with what you do as long as you can prove to me that the outcome will be in your favor and that you can make a success out of it... beyond that, I care that you are out there living the life you want to live. Isn't that our job as parents? I can't take care of you forever unless the situation calls for it."
"Mom already knows what I am going to ask, right?"
With a gentle smile. "Of course I do. What do you want to do?"
"I want to go with her."
"Then go with her. I mean you already showed that you have enough money saved up to make it work... you just have to convince someone that isn't me. I trust you'd be safe in all your activities but Rin's dad might need a little bit more than just your word."
"Who said living together?"
"You are going to apply for university there and take the courses and pay for the dorms?" She arches her brow at me, pointing out all the obvious plans that I don't want to take part in.
I clear my throat, "There aren't any plans right now. I was thinking that I could do some small courses on the side and figure out whatever suits me. Though the idea of applying doesn't excite me considering I am late to that train I would have to wait a year out."
"So meaning waiting a year here before going over?" She asks the question but I know she's just fucking me, in like a very cringe way of telling your parent that there is no way where my paranoid ass is going to let Rin go to a place with hot dudes everywhere.
"Not a chance."
Looking back down at the menu, the waiter walks over asking us, "What can I start you two off with?"
Mom starts us off, "Loaded fries starters for me and a cappuccino."
I clear my throat, "Same for me."
"I'll bring those over shortly."
Mom chuckles, "Don't have to be so modest considering we are eating out of your bank account this time around. If you wanted to go crazy with the liquor menu you could very well have a go at it."
I shake my head. "Not really feeling 'drinking' right now."
"Hmm, have to keep a clear head trying to convince me?"
"Do I still need to?"
"Maybe a little bit." Setting the menu to the side. "Truth be told I expected Rin to ask me to see what your plans were but she made it clear that she wanted to ask you herself." Yeah... about that little detail that I forced out of her. "But if you are planning on going through with it, you should do it now and aim at getting a sharehouse going before all the spots are taken."
"Sharehouse?" I furrow my brow, could I not get my apartment?
"Just an idea. I don't doubt that Rin will have a hard time making friends over there but it could help you settle in with some new faces because I know how much you just love to have company over but if you wanted privacy you could see what is around there."
I twist my lips around as I exhale, "That means getting there, I don't want to rely on Google Maps just to figure things out."
"After your exams, please."
"Yeah, I will."
I wonder though... should I consider a Sharehouse for Rin's sake? I mean it would be easy to make friends and I could probably do it with some friends. But privacy would probably work out better for my scenario otherwise I'd end up being a bother.
Maybe see if there's a streamer house willing to take applications? I know there's a bunch of streamers down there and it is mostly for their taxation laws... you have to respect it though.
So I have three options... well four.
We split up and she lives in a sharehouse while I hunt for a streamerhouse that could boost my numbers and interaction within the streaming community. I could live in the sharehouse with her. I could buy a house that suits my fancy and have every single fucking house agency reject me because I am a streamer and not someone with a real job.
Or rent a house for the two of us.
What should I go with?
