"Let's get a headstart on this."
I roll my eyes and puff my cheeks before shrug with a drawn-out sigh. "Yeah?"
"Now I don't even want to talk to you."
"I just know you are going to make this incredibly unbearable, just know that if you pull anything stupid with me I'll wrap both of us around a tree." She snorts, "Let that be the first ground rule."
"Don't piss off the guy behind the wheel, gotcha." I glance at her to see her lift her arms and rest them behind the headrest. "So. Friends."
"I'll be surprised if you can both keep and make them."
"Okay."
"But let's just stick with the coffee rule, right?"
"Come again?"
I smile to myself before I can even manage to get it out. "I like my women like I like my coffee, Rin. Without some dude's dick in it."
"Right right right right," she says quickly. "BUT that goes both ways. I don't want any dudes in you either. Like there's an incredible amount of hot dudes in colleges and knowing how we became friends I am kinda scared that because of me, your line is blurred and you don't even know what is gay or not."
I don't respond.
"Okay."
"I don't care about what you do as long as the two of us can be adults about everything, about us, about our friendships."
"You'd think that is too hard to ask from anyone these days. Don't worry, as long as the two of us can go about it how we've been going all this time then it will be a breeze." I nod with a smile. "Granted I talked to you in your sleep and you pretended to be asleep, that was low, by the way."
"Kind of hard to have a depressed girl whispering in your ear that she'd much rather end herself than be separated from that said person. We can call it a lot of things-"
"STOP."
I furrow my brow, "What?"
"NOT going to talk about that right now. Shut up," I chuckle as I try to say something, "Nah. Stop. Don't wanna hear anything from you right now. This talk? Done. Your stupid fucking smile, the last smile you ever smile around me."
"Moving on then."
"I guess we can't do anything till we've seen the damned place."
"Are you bored because your brain can't stand the fact that your mouth isn't busy?"
"Ha ha."
"I can think of something you can do to keep it busy if that's the problem you are having." I glance at her to see the expression I was hoping to see, that annoyed face asking 'really?'.
"I'll bite you."
"Might just be what I need to set me off."
"You are into some weird shit. Listen, for a guy that talks about the 'coffee' rule you better not be into any cucking shit because I swear to the god above that turned me into the woman I am now that I'll beat that shit so far out of you that you will faint at any human interaction. Which isn't different from what you already are, but still."
"Nice jab there."
"Thank you, thank you." She sinks into her seat, then with a sigh asks me, "How far is this ride going to be? The sky has gone all mango-ey."
I glance at the GPS. "We've one stop at the motel an hour or two's drive away. We'll sleep there for the night and then come early morning we'll get back on the road. And then we'll see who is more tired than the other before we decide who gets to drive."
