Sebastian's eyes widened in terror, but then his mate bond kicked into gear and he quickly, but gently scooped Keira up into his arms and held her close. He never realized how small she was compared to him until that moment.
"It's passed—the pain," Keira sighed into him as she held on tight, "I..I can't.."
"Don't say you're sorry, dandelion," Sebastian told her, "You had every right to question all of it—you still do."
"Not when I'm with child," she said, "Your child."
"Ours.." Sebastian whispered as Vera hopped out of the room, "Our baby.."
"I can't believe this is happening," Keira said, "Not to me. I thought I'd be alone..."
She stopped herself once remembering that her mate was indeed dying.
"I have to call on Devonia and even attempt to talk to hags," Keira said, rolling away from Sebastian and pacing the room, "I have to call my sisters, Esther.."
Sebastian followed her pacing. He'd obviously never been in the situation, nor had she, and his bravado had been lost to the winds.
"I'm so horny," Keira stopped, "Is that normal?"
Sebastian smiled, "I don't know. I've never been pregnant before."
Keira moaned, "Ughhh...same..What have you done to me?"
"Art of seduction."
"Well, you are definitely a fine artist.."
"I can smell your heat—how is that possible?"
"I thought only wolves could do that," Keira blushed, "That caravan with Kane Dempsey was insatiable."
"Did you sleep with any of them?"
"I thought you knew everything about me?"
"I want to hear it from you."
"I..slept with Ned."
"I know and you enjoyed every second of it."
"Why would you listen in on that?"
Sebastian chuckled, "I wanted to see how I'd be able to please you—I wanted to know what you liked."
"I don't know whether to be sickened by it, amused, or flattered that you wanted to cater to my needs," Keira teased, "A nursery?"
Sebastian smiled and held out his hand.
"Come," he said, "I will show you."
Keira threw on a gown and walked with Sebastian down the corridor, but only one room over.
"This is how I thought we'd put the nursery." he said, "It's right next to our room, but we will have bassinets and swings and anything you desire for our little one."
"This is perfect," Keira smiled as she sat down on the cushioned window seat and gazed out into the village, "Will they like me?"
"The people? Yes, they like me.."
"Do they like witches?"
Sebastian sat across from her and smiled, "They like witches. Not all of them know you're my mate or the mother of my unborn child, but they know I've gone to fetch you so I'm sure they're all wondering who you and what you look like."
"What if I'd,-"
"Keira, I've had guards on you at all times," Sebastian admitted, "You have been in harm's way, yes, but never to the point where I wouldn't have rushed in to save you. I wasn't on the battlefield because I was watching you from a distance. We've taken care of the undead many times without going to war."
"The lands you wanted?"
"They're rightfully yours," he told her, "One thing Esther needs to discuss with you. I not only fought for them so I could claim them, but so you could, too."
"I wish you'd told me," Keira said, "We could have already been..living as we should be."
She turned away quickly, not wanting Sebastian to see her tears welling up in her eyes. Getting up, she walked the room, picturing where they'd put the furniture, what toys their child would have—if she could stay in such a big place by herself if her mate actually succumbed to death.
Sebastian strolled over to where she stood and wrapped his arms around her. He could feel her sadness and worry over the future—a future without her king.
"Don't cry for me, little dandelion," he whispered into her ear, "Even when I am gone, I will never be far from you or our child. The Paradise Realm will allow my energy to cover you whenever you need it."
Keira shook her head, "That might be, but you won't be here physically and that's what our baby needs. We have to call Devonia and the others as soon as possible. All of our options have not been looked at yet—I just know it. We are not done with trying to save you—even if I have to conjure up that hag myself and force her to unhex you."
Sebastian chuckled, "Already thinking of using the dark arts? Such a naughty girl."
Keira scowled, knowing she was forbidden to do that as it had gotten so many people into trouble.
Vera appeared in the doorway, croaking and spying on the two. For a toad, Vera was definitely a soldier—one who was definitely going to go the distance for Keira at any given time.
"Vera, I need you to go to the Light Forest right away and tell Devonia and my sisters everything. Tell them to send for Esther, as well," Keira turned to Sebastian, "There won't be any dying for either one of us any time soon, Sebastian."
She took Sebastian's hand and placed it on her lower stomach.
"He's moving."
