"We'll find her," Sebastian soothed,"We'll get the bitch, I promise."
"I don't know if I can do this, Sebastian. I've never been scared in my life, to be honest."
They talked for a little while more about the hag until Sebastian brought up the prior conversation:
"You wouldn't have mated with me at 16..."
Keira sighed, "Hell, I don't know if I'm ready to be a mother now, but I certainly wouldn't have been at 16. I... might have been with you as a young girl. You seem to know I like men quite a bit."
Sebastian smiled, crookedly,"Nothing wrong with pleasure, my little weed. I've been with plenty."
Keira rolled her eyes. For someone who wasn't in love with their own mate, she certainly felt pretty jealous at that moment.
"Is that so?"
"Huh?" Keira glanced at him before taking another bite of bread.
"I see your face. That's jealousy."
"You're delusional."
"Am I?" Sebastian scoffed, "I think you're in denial over your feelings for me. It hurts, Keira, but I can't, -"
Keira stood up abruptly, knocking the chair back. Her anger was bubbling over like liquid in a cauldron.
"You're hurt?! All this time and just have to forgive you for thinking you knew what was best for me? Look where it got us! We're dying, Sebastian. Our baby is DYING and all because you felt like waiting. We might have taken out the hag by now or if you'd come to me sooner I might have mated you! The oracles never once reached out to me so you are the one to fucking blame and I can't stand your face right now!"
Keira rushed to the front door and flung it open. She was about to pass the little gate they'd entered walking to the path to the front door when something stopped her.
An unseen force was holding her back
She struggled against it, pushing and getting more and more frustrated by the minute.
Someone grabbed her around the waist and pulled her away from the gate. She kicked and screamed, but Sebastian was too strong for her.
"There's something not letting us leave!"
Keira clawed at him, but knew that her resistance was futile and neither one of them wanted to hurt the baby.
"How do you know?!"
Sebastian set Keira down on the little porch of the home and told her to stay put.
"As much as you don't like me right now, I need you to see this so please just let me gain your trust for a short time."
Keira didn't move as she watched him go to the side of the yard and was stopped. He went to the other side and was stopped and then he grabbed her hand, leading her to the backyard where he was stopped at the edge of their yard.
"We're trapped here."
Sebastian shrugged, "We could try some spells to allow us through, but I think this is somehow deliberate."
Keira decided that she had nothing else to lose so casting her spells came naturally to her.
Sebastian watched from a distance, his own magic seeping through.
As a satyr, he had a few talents in the field of sorcery, but his brute strength and other skills overrode any witchcraft he'd ever possess.
"It's not working! I'm not as strong as this force field!" Keira said, slapping at the invisible shield.
"What's that in the distance?!" Sebastian grabbed his wife and pulled her close to him. The size difference between the two was incredible and she easily hid behind him.
"Malcolm..." he snarled, still not at all trusting the centaur or his ways.
The centaur came rushing up to their perimeter, stopping short of the barrier. He could sense it even before he'd reached the shield.
"How do you always seem to know when we need you?" Keira asked, suspiciously,"You're beginning to make me nervous and I was already a wreck before."
"I'm still watching you. This is a protective barrier. It was placed on me by some unknown force when I arrived. I was told that no one knows where it comes from, but if you don't belong here you can obtain one."
Keira and Sebastian were even more confused.
"You're safe in there, I promise," Malcolm told them,"No one can get in."
"But how do we get the mission completed?"
Malcolm sighed, "I don't know. It's something we'll have to worry about later. I'll be around."
And with that, he was off again.
"Someone else is watching out for us?" Keira thought about who it could be, but even when the two tried to come up with answers, they came up empty.
"I'm sorry I got us into this. I know I keep going back and forth with my apologies. I was young and dumb and just smitten with you, Keira. Yes, I was a cad and you've every right to be angry. I would be, but I didn't take thet into consideration."
Keira was about to appease his woes when she felt Emmett kicking.
Taking Sebastian's hand, she placed it on her belly as the huge satyr felt his son dancing around Keira's belly.
"We're going to survive for him, Sebastian. We'll do whatever it takes, no matter what we have to... we're getting out of this alive or I will personally rip apart every hag in this Realm, the Shadow Realm and the Outer Realm. Not one of them will be able to do this to anyone else ever again."
