Keira heard Emmett's cries and tried desperately to soothe him, but what could she do when she couldn't soothe herself?
"Help!! Anyone!!! Please?!!!"
Her heart was pounding wildly in her chest as the darkness began closing in. She chose to stay—what if Sebastian had just gone out to gather items and was simply lost?
How long could she stay though? How will the Dark Realm treat her if it was continuously keeping things away?
Had Sebastian fallen ill somewhere or been taken?
They'd been able to communicate by linking minds before and now? Now she couldn't even move dirt with her mind.
"Emmett.." Keira sobbed as she cradled her child to her bosom, "We've lost him..I was so stupid..I should have stayed awake.."
There was a little intermission where Keira didn't move. She sat in the carriage to wait for Sebastian, taking care of Emmett and crying, praying to the gods to bring her mate back.
"I love him..." she repeated, "I love him.."
Emmett loved him and that's something she had felt the entire time she was pregnant and now? Now his father was gone.
"I can't just sit here.."
Keira stared out into the forest, wishing she'd had some sort of powers left.
"I hate this place..."
Emmett began crying and Keira's voice soothed him, her singing only lulling him to sleep for a short time and then he'd wake up again.
"I will have no choice but to leave the carriage," she said, "We don't have enough to sustain us for more than a few days without hunting and gathering and I don't have the means to do that with you, little one."
Emmett cooed as if he had no care in the world.
He was the only thing Keira had left—the only good thing.
"I love you," she whispered, "Your Daddy loves you. I know he's out there somewhere."
She looked around and tried to lock up the carriage as best as she could before settling Emmett down for a nap.
Keira caught something out of the corner of her eye.
"Stop it," she trembled, "Stop this..I don't deserve this..we don't deserve this! TO HELL WITH THE GODS AND THE FUCKING ORACLES!!"
The little witch could only think it was the illusions of the Dark Realm—or was it her mate?!
She hesitated, taking one last look at her son before opening the carriage door and looking around.
"Hello?! Who is out there?! Show yourself!"
Nothing—not even the sound of the birds or other woodland creatures.
Suddenly, she saw a familiar outline that shocked her very soul.
"Malcolm? It can't be.."
There was no way it could be the centaur. Where had he gone? Was he hurt? Was he with Sebastian?
"Keira!"
"Malcolm.."
"It is me, I swear! We must go," the centaur galloped towards her before kicking back on his hind legs, "Get the baby—we must go. They're coming. The hags are coming for him!"
