When it was time to make camp, Malcolm was actually able to show them a vacant cave that would suit them just fine.
"I'll keep watch with Sebastian," Augustus spoke like the true king that he was. Much to Keira's surprise, her husband complied.
"I'll be keeping an eye on you, Malcolm," Sebastian seethed, "Don't fuck with what's mine."
Malcolm scoffed as he kicked his heels up and sauntered to the back of the cave.
"Your women are safer with me than they are out there in the Dark Realm."
Keira and Esther made their bedding and started cooking a little supper for the tiny group.
"Do you think we'll find the hags?"
Esther smiled, "Oh, I'm sure we will. It's going to depend on when, though. I don't know if we'll find them by the time you have him!"
She pointed to Keira's belly in awe.
"I know it! Sebastian said I'd grow rapidly, but I can't believe this!"
Keira rubbed her stomach and grinned, "I could eat this food raw."
"That's different!" Esther said, "A craving?"
"Just starving!"
Malcolm settled himself in a corner, wrapping a large blanket around him.
"Why don't you come over here and join us around the fire, Malcolm?" Esther asked, "I promise it's alright."
Augustus glared at his wife before taking a pipe out of his back pocket and filling it with some sort of herb.
"She's a little naive?"
Augustus snickered,"No, Sebastian. She's the least naive person I've ever known, but she's powerful and can outmatch that centaur ahy day."
Sebastian looked back at his wife, rubbing her belly and laughing at something Esther was saying. Malcolm settled in between them with his blanket.
"She is getting big fast," Augustus whispered,"I'm sure she wasn't prepared for that to happen."
Sebastian sighed,"I wasn't as transparent as I should have been. She's learning quickly."
"Well, she has. Trust me, you're a good man to her. I wasn't a good man to my mate when we were first together."
"I've heard stories."
Augustus grunted,"I'm sure a lot of them are true."
Sebastian grinned,"Still trying to make that army?"
"We have plenty of younglings at the moment."
Sebastian shook his head. He knew about how many children Esther and Augustus had and how it took a toll on Esther every time she got pregnant.
"Strong genes," Augustus said,"The Moon dynasty must thrive."
"As does mine."
"That's why we're here, Sebastian. I've got nothing against you or your mate, but test me not."
Sebastian rolled his eyes,"Vampires fighting satyrs is something we both live for and you know it."
"I'd kick your ass if we weren't around our mates."
"Once we're out of here, we'll put that to the test just for fun."
Augustus laughed,"It's a deal."
He looked out at the rain as it washed over the valley.
"This place is strange. I know there are many levels, though," Sebastian said,"This area almost seems normal."
"I wouldn't let my guard down," Malcolm piped up as he joined the men, "The Dark Realm has its moments. Portals can also open at any time."
"And we'd be cast off from the group?" Sebastian narrowed his eyes,"I knew we shouldn't have come here."
Malcolm sighed,"A day's walk and we'll be on the hag's turf."
"Anything could happen.."
"Oh!"
Keira's yelp startled Sebastian who rushed to her side.
"Are you alright, darling?"
"I.. I think so.. He's kicking quite a bit.."
Keira and Sebastian watched as Keira's stomach moved with every kick and punch and motion from their son.
"This is so fascinating..." Keira whispered,"He's so active right now."
"He's... very active..." Esther said, feeling a vibration in the cage as the fire whipped about, "Does he ever seem to get more active when things are about to, -"
"Trolls.." Augustus quipped, "Put the fire out now."
Esther splashed water on the fire as they tried desperately to move the smoke away from the entrance.
"Are they coming?"
"Those aren't trolls," Malcolm scowled,"They're wraiths and they will fight you."
"How did they..." Augustus prepared himself for battle as he looked to Esther who was gearing up as well.
"They're sniffing the air. I don't know what they smell. Your kind doesn't belong here so maybe it's you."
Esther turned back to Keira and frowned.
"We need to keep as calm and as still as possible," Malcolm whispered, "Wraiths aren't born of the other world and you know it. They will make us suffer just for shits and giggles."
"They're not really doing much..." Esther said, softly, "Oh gods..."
They turned to look in the direction of Esther's gaze. More wraiths were joining the group.
"The hags sent them," Keira yelped, "The hags.."
Esther frowned, "They're after Emmett already and he knows it. He's been trying to warn you."
"How can he be that powerful?"
"He's got your blood and a satyr's running through him," Esther hurried back to her sister,"Come on. We'll go deeper into the cave for now."
"Don't go too far," Augustus warned.
The women hurried into another alcove and settled in.
"What do we do besides fight them off? Don't we want the hags to find us, too?"
Esther shook her head,"No, I wanted to meet on their turf. We don't need wraiths attacking us. They're gonna rip this baby right out of you if we don't stand our ground."
