Ji Hu was finishing up the cake, putting the decorations on that she had lying around. The last time she made cake, it was cupcakes, and they were for Halloween for the employees. Ji Hu heard the door open and close as Gu Won arrived back from wherever he decided to run off to.
"What's all this?" Gu Won asked as he walked over to the island to find out what Ji Hu was making for him.
A grin appeared on Ji Hu's face. "I made a cake."
"But Halloween has already passed." Gu Won pointed out.
"Hey, don't knock the decorations, I was working with what I had. I don't bake cakes often." Ji Hu said as she drew up her sleeves after pushing in the last bat toothpick. "But that leads me to wonder, when is your birthday?" Ji Hu asked.
"I don't have one."
"Well, you once had one, you were birthed a human, unless demons can be conceived." Ji Hu said as she added a little more icing to the cake. "You seemed envious of Christmas, so I wanted to practice making a cake for you." Ji Hu shrugged. "As a thank you for everything you've done for me." Ji Hu picked up the melted chocolate, thinking about what to write on the cake. She hadn't noticed Gu Won's face.
Ji Hu hm-ed. "What should I write?" Ji Hu looked at Gu Won. "Got any suggestions? I'm coming up blank." Ji Hu looked back at the cake. "Maybe just your name then." Ji Hu shrugged as she started to write Gu Won's name onto the cake. As she was doing so, Gu Won stepped behind her, wrapping his arms around her.
"I'm charging up." Gu Won said when he noticed Ji Hu give him a look.
"What's the matter?" Ji Hu asked as she went back to finishing writing his name. Ji Hu had spent enough time with Gu Won to know when he was upset.
"No, nothing's wrong." Gu Won lied.
"I know you're lying."
"I'm not."
"No?" Ji Hu turned around, looking at Gu Won. "You look upset now, and you left me at the police station abruptly. Want to tell me where you went?" Ji Hu asked.
"I went to the theater. You won't believe how much Mr. Park was whining." Gu Won said.
Ji Hu didn't believe him. "What about?"
"Nothing to worry about, it's all been sorted out." Gu Won said. Ji Hu still didn't believe him, but she'd let him have those secrets for the time being. "Anyhow, I think cakes should be made by experts." Ji Hu's eyebrows rose. "We can always buy a cake, so just hang out with me." Gu Won said, taking her hands to pull her away from the island.
"Yah!" Ji Hu lightly smacked his hands. "You haven't even tried it yet, you demon. I might be more interested in cookies than cake, but I know how to make a good cake. Why do you look at me with such distrust?" Ji Hu watched Gu Won's emotion flicker. Ji Hu grabbed a fork, putting some of the cake onto it. "How about you try it before you turn your nose up to my baking?" Ji Hu said, offering to feed him.
Gu Won took her arm as she forked the cake into his mouth. Ji Hu waited to see what Gu Won's reaction was. "So?" Then she saw his face. "What? What's the matter?" Gu Won covered his mouth, trying to swallow what was in his mouth.
He smiled afterwards. "It tastes amazing."
"Really?" Ji Hu sounded skeptical. "I saw your face, Gu Won."
"I can totally tell it was made by an expert."
Ji Hu nodded slowly, going to take a bite for herself. Gu Won cried out, stopping her from eating the cake. Gu Won picked up the cake, "It'd be a shame to eat this masterpiece. Let's just appreciate it by looking at it like this." Ji Hu was uncomfortable by Gu Won's "attachment" to the cake and how close he was making it get to their faces.
