When I returned home, my eyes widened to find War sitting in the living room, hugging the teddy bear I had given him. His eyes were red and swollen as if he had been crying. As he sensed my presence, he lifted his head and his eyes met mine. Slowly, he got up and started walking towards me.

"War? Why are you sitting here?" I asked in a soft tone, approaching him.

Instead of answering, War hugged me tightly and buried his face in my chest. "P'Yin..." He called out with crack voice and I responded by returning his embrace, gently running my fingers through his hair.

"Why, baby? Did you wake up because I was not beside you?" I inquired.

He didn't immediately respond but the tightness of his embrace and the tears on his face conveyed the turmoil within him. "Phi-PYin did not plan to leave me, right? I-I promised not to get into fights anymore. I will be a good person," he said between sobs.

I cupped his face. "Baby, what are you talking about? I love you. I love you so much and I will never leave you," I assured him but his tears continued to flow unabated.

"I'm so scared when I woke up and PYin was not beside me. I'm-I'm afraid if PYin doesn't love me anymore." His words punctuated by heartbreaking sobs.

"War...baby," I murmured, my heart aching for him. I held him even tighter. "War, listen to me. I'm not going anywhere. I love you more than anything and I will always be here for you. You mean the world to me."

He clung to me as if his life depended on it. His tear-streaked face pressed against my shoulder and in between sobs, he managed to utter, "But I got into a fight with P'Yin's friend."

"You did nothing wrong, sweetheart. I'm sorry I went out without telling you. I met Fourth and warned him. I can't let him go just like that after he dared to hurt you, baby. I'm really sorry for making you overthink."

War pulled back slightly. "P'Yin warned him?"

I nodded, giving him a soft smile. "I could not let him get away with hurting you. I had to make sure he knows there are consequences for his actions."

"But what if he comes after P'Yin?"

I smiled, brushing a strand of his hair away from his forehead. "I can handle myself, love. Besides, he won't dare to mess with us again. I made it clear that you are not someone he can just mess with."

His lips turned down. "I was so scared."

I pressed a gentle kiss on his forehead. "I'm here for you, always. I love you more than anything."

War nestled back into the crook of my neck. "I love P'Yin too," he responded, making my lips turn into a tiny smile.

A WEEK LATER

The sun hung low in the sky where War and I had set up our picnic. A checkered blanket adorned with an array of delicious treats lay spread out beneath us, surrounded by the beauty of nature.

War settled down on the blanket. I joined him, a smile playing on my lips as I reached over to take his hand. The remnants of the worries from the past few days seemed to dissipate in the tranquil setting.

"Are you comfortable?" I asked.

He nodded. "Perfectly comfortable and this view is amazing, P'Yin!" War replied excitedly.

My grin widened and I leaned in to place a tender kiss on his forehead. "I'm happy you like it. I wanted this day to be special for us."

As he began to unpack the picnic basket, I gently touched his cheek. "Your bruises seem to have disappeared, baby," I said softly.
