Present day
I only planned to spend two minutes at the wedding. I just had to be in and out. Two minutes, that's all. I really didn't plan on running into her. And I knew for sure, she did not plan on running into me.
At the first second I thought she didn't even recognize me, and even though she hadn't seen me since that one and only night, I felt hurt. But I think a girl never forgets the person who broke up with her instead of the girl she was dating.
"Clara, hi!" I heard her voice many times in the last few years. Every day. But the fact that she remembered my name... I had to bite my tongue to hold back from grabbing her and disappearing leaving everyone behind.
"Hi, Abbie, right?" I cleared my throat, my hands disappearing in the pocket of my trousers. Her smile was completely fake, I knew that, her eyes sending lightning to Lillian's direction.
"How do you two know each other?" Addison frowned, pointing at us. I guess. I couldn't take my eyes off her sister. The last time I saw her up close like this, was the night she kissed me. Since then, I remained in the dark, watching her from a distance, keeping her safe... helping her succeed in things she wanted to achieve.
"Yeah, how do we know each other?" Abbie turned to Lillian, whose jaw were clenched so hard, I was afraid she would hurt herself. Hayley noticed the tension in her body too, looking up at her girlfriend from her side.
"College." Lillian's words were hard. Actually she was in no place to brag at the moment, she was such a dick to girls back then. And even if somehow Hayley turned her into someone much warmer, those girls did not forget. Abbie did not forget.
"Clara broke up with me instead of her , because Lillian was a coward piece of shit to do it herself."
Ouch!
"You did what?!" Hayley's arms slid off Lillian's waist, as she looked up, with a shocked expression on her face.
"I-" A red flush appeared on Lillian's high cheekbones. She literally blushed.
"Yeah, that was her move apparently."
"Abigail." Lillian's hard eyes landed on her. She really had a talent of looking at you like she could kill you without touching you.
"Lillian." I couldn't suppress my smirk at the mocking tone in Abbie's voice. I looked down to the floor, hoping my smile was not at all obvious.
"Stop it."
"You aren't in the place to order me around anymore." She crossed her arms on her chest, her red hair falling around her front.
Lillian took a rapid breath, her eyes fixated on Hayley, who looked more confused than I have ever seen her. But I only met her a handful of times, so... who knows. Maybe this was her usual face.
"But, old times, water under the bridge." It was not water under the bridge. I could see the pain, and hurt in her eyes. Not like years before, the cut wasn't fresh, but it cut deep. And man, I wanted to heal her so badly.
"I'm sorry." Lillian's apology was just as fake as Abbie's smile.
"It was years ago, I got over it. You are not that memorable." She stung out of anger.
"Uh" Daniella's jaw hung open. "Maybe we should let them talk this out." She suggested.
"We don't need to talk about anything. Water under the bridge."
"I need a drink." Hayley pulled her hand out of Lillian's palm.
"Darling, wait." Lillian reached out after her, causing her girlfriend to turn back, placing her palm on Lillian's chest, stopping her.
