Clara
"You're ok. You're ok. You're ok." I looked at my reflection in the mirror, gripping the wheel like my life depended on it. "You're ok. I'm ok. Everything is ok." My heart wanted to jump out of my chest.
I had no idea what got into me, what made me this nervous. I've been there before, I've already met her family so it couldn't be that. I don't know where did Addison got my number from, but I already regret picking the phone up when it rang. But I thought something happened to Abigail, so I acted on an instinct. If I would have known that she only wanted to ask me to take a look at her mother's security system I would never even have touched my phone.
For some reason, the possibility of running into Abigail made my chest ache enough to be hard for me to get out of my car. Even after 20 minutes of arriving in front of her family's home.
Two knocks on my window pulled me out of my trans, scaring me to death. "Are you going to come in?" Addison's voice sneaked through the window as a whisper.
"Y-yeah." I nodded, waiting for her to step away so I could get out of the vehicle. "I didn't know you would be here."
"I thought it would be good if I keep my mom busy so she would breathe on your neck all day. She can be very noisy."
"Thank you." I nodded gratefully. "I'll just be in and out. Half an hour tops." I informed, following her through the door.
"Alright." She closed the door behind me. "Clara is here!" She announced. What the fuck, girl?!
"Clara, thanks for coming." His father appeared from the living room. "Sorry about calling you, but my wife was bugging me about this stuff since there was a robbery down the street."
"It's ok. It's my job, so I am helping where I can." Actually it wasn't my job. It was my employe's job. It's been years since I last went to a house for work.
"Great. So let me walk you through my vision and you can tell me what is doable and what isn't, alright?" He offered, leading me into the living room.
"Perfect." I nodded.
He looked like he was easy to work with. He acknowledged that I was the professional and he had no idea where anything could go, but he thought about things and showed me what he thought. We planned everything and I wrote down the details.
"So what will this cost me? Hit me with the numbers." He asked while I wrote down the last information while standing in the hallways.
I have never done work for 'friends' really. I mean of course I did for Lillian and Grace but they are different. I didn't know if I should have offered to do it for free or not. I had no idea what the protocol actually was.
"Well it is a big house with a lot of windows and areas you want to watch. The outdoor ones obviously cost more since they have to beat the weather." I danced around the subject, until I decided if I would offer to do it for free. "I think with adding some friendly discount to it, it won't be that horrible. I will work out a good deal for you all and get back to you as soon as possible, if that is alright with you."
"More than alright. Thank you for your time. Appreciate the discount." He offered me his hand to seal the deal.
"It's nothing, really."
I gathered my bag, putting the papers into it as we stood in the hallway. I was rather happy that I successfully avoided Abigail's mom. She was not my favorite person on the planet.
"If you have any questions or other suggestions, don't hesitate to call me." I offered him my card with my information on it.
"Alright, thank you." His finger drummed on the card, taking it from my hand.
