Clara

I parked my car in front of Lillian's house, frowning when I found Alex sitting on the porch with his bag by his feet.

"What are you doing?" I looked around, searching for an adult, but I was the only one on the street.

"Waiting for Lillian. She is taking me to buy some video games." He stood up when I walked up to him. He has grown since the last time I saw her and it wasn't even that long ago. His hand disappeared in the pocket of her red hoodie.

"Why are you waiting out here?" I knocked on the door, while looking down at Alex by my side.

"They are fighting so I didn't want to be in the way." He shrugged.

"Fighting?" He was right. If I listened closely I could hear them talking through the door. "What are they fighting about?"

"I don't know." He shook his head, his black baseball cap almost falling off. "They are fighting a lot nowadays."

"Wait here." I asked him before walking in the door, inviting myself in. I walk through, following the sound of their shouting.

"Why are you always trying to sabotage us?" Hayley was facing away from me, looking at her fiancé on the other side of the kitchen with her hands on her waist.

Lillian ignored her, eyes landing on me. "What are you doing here?" Her black eyes were angry, she looked more than just pissed. Hayley spun around to face me, quickly looking back at her girlfriend.

"Did you call her here to fight your battle instead of you again?"

Wow, low blow

Lillian's jaw flexed fist tightening, probably trying to hold back from saying something that would hurt Hayley. Her stormy eyes left the younger girl, looking at me again. "What are you doing here?" She repeated, while walking around to grab a glass and fill it with water for herself.

"You two invited me over for dinner last week." I reminded them. The tension was heavy in the air as silence sat between the three of us. "The kid is waiting for you outside." I motioned to the door with my head, eyes glued to my best friend.

"She has bigger problems than going shopping." Hayley cut in.

"I'm not an expert, but I don't think he should be sitting in the street waiting for any of you while you two are arguing." I advised.

"Why are you in this conversation at all?!" The Hayley who tried to prove to me that I liked her, was completely different from the Hayley standing in front of me. She looked at me like I was causing all her problems, even though the problem started way before I arrived.

I held back from telling her to go and fuck herself and just stood there silently. I'm improving

"I will go and take your brother shopping while you two sort this out." I informed them before walking out without waiting for their answer. "Come." I invited Alex, who looked up at me with a confused look.

"Where?"

"We will go find some games you would like." I said while he followed me, hopping in the car when I opened the door for him.

The silence with him was pretty comfortable. No one wanted to talk so none of us did until we were in the elevator.

"Why did we come here?" He watched his reflection in the mirror.

"I have some games you can try." I let him exit the elevator first when the doors slid open. He was familiar with the place, but he was still standing awkwardly in the middle of the living room, while I walked into the kitchen, searching for my girlfriend.
