A/N You guys are insane! We passed 3k reads this week! I am so happy, thank you all so much for this support!
Benicio and Celia had gone to her apartment to get a few hours of sleep. There was so much going on at the moment, that neither of them actually had had the opportunity to rest up properly. And also on this morning, Celia was abruptly woken up by her phone ringing.
"Izzy... What is it?", she answered the call, hoping it would not be something urgent.
"Max is in the infirmary! I found him in my room with a wound on his head. Someone attacked him!"
Celia closed her eyes for a moment, thinking the situation through. She had to be in the Seelie Court in an hour, but Izzy sounded like she really needed support right now.
"Give me ten minutes.", Celia answered.
"Thank you.", Izzy was a little out of breath. This was probably not the first call she had made right now. Celia got up and slipped into her clothes. When she pulled a shirt over her head, she heard Benicio come up the stairs:
"What is going on?"
"Max is injured...", Celia mumbled, "he was attacked by someone. I'll just quickly check the situation, then I'm back."
"Celia, the audience with the Seelie Queen is in an hour -"
"I am aware.", Celia interrupted him, "I'll be back in time, promise."
With that, Celia went past Benicio down the stairs and left the apartment. She knew that she had more important things to do right now. Especially because she did not exactly care much about Max. He was Izzy and Alec's little brother, but Celia herself did not really have a relationship with him, let alone an emotional attachment. Regardless, Celia felt the need to do this right now, even if it was just for ten minutes.
When Celia walked into the infirmary a couple minutes later, she met Jace and Sebastian in the hallway:
"Izzy called you too?", Sebastian asked.
"No, I just guessed what happened.", Celia rolled her eyes and followed Jace into the room. Her gut was still telling her that something was off about Sebastian, and she simply did not see the point in why he was here at all.
"Max!", Jace huffed when they entered the room. Clary, Izzy and Alec were here already. Celia stopped in front of the bed. Max had a thick bandage wrapped around his head, his eyes were closed.
"We checked the security camera footage.", Jace reported, "whoever attacked him is covering their tracks."
Celia sighed. Alright, you guys need to invest in a new surveillance system! This can't be the excuse for everything that happens.
"Is he able to talk?", Sebastian asked.
"What kind of question is that?", Celia snapped, "he's clearly unconscious."
"I don't understand any of this...", Clary threw in, "who would want to hurt Max?"
"I don't know.", Alec growled, "but I will find out!"
He took a step towards the door, but Jace held him back:
"Hey, calm down.", Celia had had the same thought, Alec was not rational right now, "we will first get Robert and Maryse here, in the meantime we'll work on finding out who did this."
"Yes, do that", Sebastian agreed, "I'll stay with Max. If he wakes up, he may be able to identify his attacker."
Celia raised her eyebrow. She was not comfortable with leaving this man who was basically a stranger with a helpless child.
