But I wanted more for you
You can't go on this way
And now I see it all fall through
We pray for better days
Shattered By Broken Dreams ~ Avenged SevenfoldWe got back to the house before anyone else and Rosie was relieved to see everything was set up and ready.
"Come on." She said grabbing my arm. "Let's fix up our makeup."
Frankly I couldn't give a shit about my makeup but I sat there while she touched mine up. She used to be a beauty therapist, well before Blake got rich and she could quit.
"You know Peyton, your legs look fabulous in that dress with those heels."
I looked down, they looked normal to me.
"You really are beautiful." She went on.
"Okay, what are you doing?" I asked.
She sighed, looking at me. "I just wish you'd find someone, you deserve someone."
"Well." I said standing up. "I'm happy with everything right now Rosie, I don't want anyone." I opened the door, turning back to look at her. "So don't even think about setting me up."
She looked disappointed as I walked away but I didn't care, I was at a point in my life where I didn't really want a relationship and I'd decided that I would probably never get married or have kids, it just wasn't me.
"Hey." Sam called as I walked out. "Drink?"
People had arrived while my makeup was getting a touch up.
"Cocktails." Rosie announced, walking up behind me.
I didn't disagree with her, it was pointless, so I just drank whatever drink was handed to me.
The party seemed to be a hit and everyone appeared to be having a good time and I knew Blake would be happy about that.
"Drink?" Brian asked, approaching me.
I hadn't spoken to any of the guy's at the party, everyone had drifted off, socialising with different people.
"Sure."
He smiled and walked towards the bar and I took the opportunity to sit down, my feet were beginning to hurt.
"Do you need a drink Peyton?" Matt asked, suddenly appearing.
"Brian's getting me one, but thank you."
"Oh okay." He said sitting next to me. "Do you mind?"
"Oh no, not at all." I assured him.
"Nice party." He said.
"Yeah, I guess. Blake is pretty proud of himself."
Matt laughed, and Rosie was right, he did have beautiful dimples.
"So Peyton, we haven't talked much." He said.
I nodded, that was true, I didn't add it was because he intimidated the fuck out of me.
"So talk, tell me about yourself."
"Like what?" I didn't know what he wanted hear.
"Okay....how old are you?"
"30."
"Where do you live?"
"I have my own house, not far from the beach."
"You own it?"
"Paying it off."
"Your parents?" He asked.
"They live in New York, I don't see them much, but I have an older brother who lives in San Francisco, he visits regularly." I told him.
"Cool." He said nodding.
"Yeah." I didn't know what else to say, I didn't want to ask him anything because I didn't want to ask a question that would upset him.
"How long have you worked with Blake?"
"Five years, maybe a bit more, he's a good guy." I told him.
"Yeah he is." He smiled again and opened his mouth to say something else when Brian interrupted us.
"Here you go." He said handing me a drink and sitting down with us.
I sat there, listening to Brian and Matt talk to eachother and I occasionally nodded or answered yeah. I was surprised at how well the whole evening had gone, from the concert to the party, it had been a hit, but I was most surprised by Matt, his talking to me, his smiling.
He actually seemed just like a normal guy, a normal guy who still wore his wedding band.
