ONE

CHAPTER ONE: HAPPY LIFE

October 4th, 2023

4 Months Later

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

IT HAD BEEN FOUR MONTHS SINCE MAGGIE AND BUCKY'S WEDDING, SINCE THEY BECAME MR AND MRS BARNES FOR THE SECOND TIME.

Ever since then they had nothing but bliss. Thanks to Tony, the couple spent two weeks in Athens, Greece for their honeymoon. While they we're away, Tony and Pepper babysat Emma. The first week was spent in the bedroom while the second was exploring the country. When they returned, Bucky resumed on all of the things he needed to get done. Him, Maggie, and their daughter were rewarded with an apartment in Brooklyn as he went to therapy as part of being pardoned for his past crimes.

In those four months, Tony Stark was retired, raising his daughter Morgan and supporting Pepper behind the scenes as she ran Stark Industries. Clint was back home with his family as was Scott. Thor was still with the Guardians of Galaxy and Dr Strange returned to the Sanctorium on Bleecker. As for Steve...Steve passed away at the end of September from his old age. Bucky and Maggie went into mourning and attended the funeral along with Sam Wilson.

Ever since then, Bucky had been ignoring Sam's texts. All he ever talked to or hung out with was Maggie. She and Emma were the only family he had left after Steve died, the only person he was happy around. However, Maggie was trying to get Bucky to make new friends and talk to Sam. She couldn't really talk either, since she didn't really hang out with anyone other than Bucky or Sam. Felix had his own life with his wife and daughter in Fortuna. Maggie's best friend died on Vormir, and Wanda was nowhere to be found. Bucky and Emma were the only family she had in Brooklyn, just as she was his since Steve was also gone.

Maggie Barnes woke up in bed alone. It wasn't often that she did, but there were some days that she did or woke earlier than Bucky to get Emma ready for school. When the greenette did wake up alone, her anxiety rose in fear he was gone. Ever since she defeated Thanos and Bucky came back, Maggie was still scared of losing him again. She also loved for Bucky to be the first thing she saw when she woke up, and his morning kisses were the best.

Instead of Bucky being beside her, Alpine was there waiting for her morning scratches as she happily purred. Maggie got out of bed after scratching Alpine's head, immediately pulling on her robe. She could smell food coming from the kitchen as she walked out of her bed room. Alpine followed and went into the living room as Maggie stopped. She watched and smiled as her husband was in his own world cooking breakfast, wearing a sweatshirt and gym shorts. Emma was at the breakfast table eating eggs and bacon.

"Morning, mom," Emma greeted as Maggie kissed their heads.

"Good morning, darling," Maggie told her.

While he wasn't paying attention, the agent wrapped her arms around Bucky's chest from behind. Her head rested on his back, and a smile came to Bucky's lips as he moved away from the stove.

"Good morning to you too," Bucky said, turning around to face her way.

"You weren't there when I woke up," Maggie said, letting him wraps his arms around her wait.

She reached up on her toes and wrapped her arms around his neck as she frowned.

"You know I don't like waking up alone."

"My apologies, Mrs Barnes." His voice lowered but his eyes were soft as he tucked the emerald strand of hair behind her ear. "I wanted to get up early and make breakfast for all of us. Get Emma ready for school so you could sleep. I'll make it up to you later, if you want me to."
