CHAPTER EIGHTEEN : DEPARTURE
THE NEXT MORNING~
BUCKY WOKE UP ON THE COUCH ALONE THE NEXT MORNING.
Sam had persuaded Bucky and Maggie to stay at Sarah's for the night instead of getting a hotel room. Bucky and Maggie agreed to sleep on the pullout couch in the living room, not wanting to make a fuss. However, Maggie wasn't there when Bucky woke up. She wasn't the one to wake him up either.
It was the sound of Sam's nephews playing that woke up Bucky. He turned his head to see the kids playing with the shield, pretending they were Avengers.
"Hey," he called.
"Put it back. Hurry hurry!" The older kid said to his brother.
The boys put the shield back into it's case and ran off. Bucky couldn't help but smile as they ran away. Then he looked down at the shield, slightly poking out of the bag before he started to smell something. It was the smell of bacon and eggs coming from the kitchen, and soft humming from the most beautiful voice he ever heard.
Bucky got up from the pullout, peeling off the blanket and making it clean. Once he finished, he followed the smell and the sound. He leaned on the door frame of the kitchen, smiling as he watched.
Maggie was wearing an apron over her clothes, cooking the sizzling bacon as she hummed a song in Romani. Her green curls were pulled back into a ponytail, keeping the hair out of her face. Just looking at her made Bucky feel like he didn't deserve her. Even though he felt that way, Maggie and their daughter made him feel complete.
Maggie felt arms wrap around her waist, which made her chuckle. She sensed him in the door frame watching her, use to his presence because he was always with her.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," Maggie greeted, turning off the burner. She then slid the slices of bacon onto a plate.
"Morning, beautiful," he greeted back before leaning in to kiss her cheek.
"So those boys woke you up?"
"They were playing with the shield, pretending to be superheroes," Bucky told her, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Where's Sam?"
"He's already down at the boat," Maggie said, making both their plates. "He said that we can take our time to wake up and head down after. And I don't know about you, but I'm starving."
After they finished breakfast, Bucky helped Maggie clean up and they walked down to the docks together. When they got to the boat, Sam was working on its engine so Bucky went to help out. Maggie used her powers to get the lighter work around the boat done.
"Push the stopper," Bucky told Sam, holding the crowbar in place.
"Oh, in there," Sam clarified, fixing it before Bucky handed the crowbar back. "Thanks."
"Yep."
"Hey. Start loosening those bolts."
"Got it."
The guys started to work on the water pump while Maggie got into a conversation with Sarah. Both women noticed what the men were doing and went to them.
"Okay, so..." Sam started.
"Excuse me. No!" Sarah said.
"Oh, you guys are in trouble," Maggie snickered.
