CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: THE TRUTH REVEALED
ONCE MAGGIE STEPPED INTO IT AND THE SIGHT FILLED HER WITH EVEN MORE DREAD.
"No," Maggie resisted, stepping back. She looked around the forest of Wakanda, knowing what she was about to relive. "No, no, no."
Thanos wrists lit up in a green glow as Maggie tries to stand up. However, she felt her body freeze for a moment. Right before Maggie's eyes, Vision and the stone were back together.
"NO!" Wanda screamed before Thanos backhanded her away.
Maggie was too late when she got up, because Thanos ripped the Mind Stone from Vision. The action killed Vision a second time and sealed the fate of the universe with it. The stone slid into place of the gauntlet. Maggie gasped as a rainbow of colors slipped across Thanos' skin and giving him power. She forced herself to her feet as some of her strength returned and sprinted towards him. Thanos immediately noticed, grabbing Maggie by her neck.
"I guess you're not as powerful as I thought," Thanos seethed.
After throwing Maggie back into a nearby tree, Thor stood before Thanos. Thor's axe pushed deeply into the monster's chest, but Thanos only smirked.
"You should've gone for the head," Thanos grit out, before lifting his fist.
And then...snap.
Silence then filled air as the realization of defeat filled the air as well as souls and hearts. Maggie's nightmare had come true. They had lost.
Maggie slowly stood up as Thor stared at Thanos in disbelief.
"What did you do? What did you do?" Thor shouted.
Thanos didn't respond, but used the stones to disappear in a black cloud of smoke once more. Thor's axe flatters to the ground as he stared at the space Thanos once was.
"No," Maggie whispered in shock. "No, no, no, no."
"Where did he go?" Steve asked, walking up to Maggie and Thor.
The three of them stood in silence as Maggie's body shakes. The horror was setting in for her, Steve, and Thor. Anxiety filled Maggie, looking around for Bucky and Felix.
"Maggie?" Felix called out.
Maggie turned to her cousin, A gasp leaving her lips. Felix looked at his right arm, eyes wide as it disappeared from his body. Before he stepped forward, his entire body had turned to dust. Maggie stepped back in shock, tears forming in her eyes.
"No," Maggie started to sob.
"Maggie!" Bucky then called, making her immediately sprint to him.
"James?" Maggie asked, wrapping her arms around him before he could collapse.
She gently sat on the, tears strolling down her cheek as she held his body in her arms. She shook her head in denial, refusing to believe what was happening. He looked up at her, fear in his eyes.
"Maggie, it's okay," Bucky breathed. "Everything is going to be okay."
"No," Maggie sobbed. "Don't go. Don't leave me here. Please don't go." She kept repeating those words over and over again.
"Hey, look at me. Look at me," Bucky said, weakly bringing her hand to his forehead. Green mist appeared from her fingers, going into his forehead. "It's okay. I'm not in pain. All I feel is you."
