CHAPTER EIGHT: BREAKING OUT ZEMO

BUCKY LED SAM AND MAGGIE INTO A DARK GARAGE.

The couple had left the prison in Berlin after visiting Zemo and asking for his help. The couple held hands as Sam and them used flashlights to walk in the the darkness. Bucky and Maggie were trying to persuade Sam into agreeing to break out Zemo for his help.

"What are you two talking about? You wanna break Zemo out of jail?" Sam asked in disbelief. "Where the he'll are we? Have you both lost your minds?"

"We have no leads, no moves, nothing," Bucky stated.

"What we have is one of the most dangerous men in the world behind bars."

"And we also have eight super soldiers that are on the loose," Maggie pointed out.

"Zemo's gonna mess with our minds. Especially yours, no offense," Sam said to Bucky.

"Offense," Bucky replied, turning on the lights. "Super soldiers go against everything he believes in. He is crazy, but he still has a code."

"I've been on the wrong side of that code, so have you two. He blew up the UN, he killed King T'Chaka and framed Bucky for it. Did you forget that? You think the Wakandans forgot about it? It's a rhetorical question. They didn't," Sam explained. "I know why this matters to you, but it's pushing you off the deep end."

"Sam, we don't know how they're getting the serum. We don't even know how many of them there are. Look, let Maggie and I just walk you through a hypothetical. Can we walk you through a hypothetical?"

Sam furrowed his brows, "what did you two do?"

"We didn't do anything," Bucky said, lying terribly. "The weakest point in any system isn't the software, the hardware, it's the meatware. The human element. Now, in this lockup, its nine to one, prisoners," he explained.

"And if two prisoners start fighting, the the protocol says four guards have to respond," Maggie finished.

"So why would two prisoners randomly start fighting at that moment?" Sam asked.

"Who knows? There could be many reasons..."

"But the point is, these things escalate. Lockdown procedures would have to be initiated, and with all those bodies flying around left and right, wouldn't be hard to slip down a hallway or two," Bucky continued.

"And if the fire alarm got tripped while the prisoners were being separated, someone would use the chaos to their advantage," Maggie finished again.

"I don't like how casual you two are being about this. This is unnatural. You're freaking me out the most, Mags," Sam remarked. "Are you...and where are we?"

The door then opened. The trio turned their attention towards someone dressed as a prison guard. Zemo.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa," started Sam.

"Sam, listen," Maggie tried to reason calmly.

"What are you doing here?" He demanded.

"We didn't want to tell you 'cause we knew you wouldn't let this happen."

"What did you two do?"

"We need him, Sam," Bucky said.

"You're going back to prison!" Sam declared towards Zemo.
