Chapter 11

ARI’S P.O.V

“Noooo…” I whined as I hit the snooze button on my alarm, I started work at a "Victoria's Cafe" this morning and I must say I was not liking the early 8am start. I rolled over, hoping that something would miraculously happen that prevented me from needing to get up. The alarm went off again and I moved my hand around desperately, trying to silence the incessant ringing. The room once again fell into silence and I sighed as I slowly placed my feet on the carpet.

“Snow day, snow day, snow day…” I prayed, crossing my fingers and squeezing my eyes shut as I took a deep breath and whipped the curtains open. Nope. Just my luck.

“Sydneeey” someone yelled down the hallway.

“Mm-yeah?” I yelled back, fumbling around for suitable work clothes.

“Breakfast is ready!” Keegan shouted, “But if you don’t hurry I’ll eat all your bacon!”

Bacon.

I gasped, dropping my second sock as I ran for the kitchen. “OH MY GOD NO, DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH IT!” I screamed, sprinting into the kitchen to find Keegan and Alex sitting around the bench eating bacon and eggs. “I’m warning you now, if you’ve done something to my bacon, I suggest you fix it or else you’d better sleep with one eye open tonight…” I glared at the boys, pointing my finger at them as they looked at me amusedly.

“I see you’re going for the uni-sock look.” Alex smirked, gesturing towards my one barefoot.

“Well this evil child,” I muttered, glaring at Keegan, “Was threatening to eat my food! I dropped what I was doing and ran!” I picked up my plate of bacon and eggs and moved to the table.

“Hey, not my fault you weren’t fast enough.” Keegan laughed, slowly edging his fork towards Alex’s bacon.

“Yeah well as long as you want to have a complete set of fingers and toes, I suggest you steer clear of my food Mr.” I warned, trying to supress my laughter as Keegan successfully stole a piece of bacon from Alex. “Oh balls,” I muttered, looking at the time on the microwave and shovelling down my food in record time. “I need to get going, thanks for the breakfast guys! You’re the best!” I smiled, quickly kissing their cheeks and grabbing my purse and a pair of shoes and running out the door. “Shoot.” I muttered, glancing down at my feet before dropping my bag and opening the door again.

“Forget something?” I looked up to see Alex standing in front of me holding my missing sock.

“Oh my god, I love you.” I said, hugging him while I grabbed the sock, picked up my belongings and ran out the door.

“Flat white?” I asked, holding out the coffee cup to a lady around mid-thirties. “Thank you, love.” She said, smiling kindly as she took the cup from my hand and placed $5 on the counter. I thanked her and stepped back to tighten the black apron around my waist and surveyed the café. It was a relatively small place, with vintage looking tables and couches scattered around the place. The walls were decorated with flowery wall hangings and cute quotes, and vases of colourful flowers sat in the middle of each table. It was beautiful.

“Excuse me?” I snapped back from my thoughts to find a petite brunette leaning on the counter.

“Oh shoot, sorry was in my own little world for a moment there. What can I get you?” I smiled, admiring the long soft curls that framed her pretty face.

“Oh, I’ll just get a coffee.” She said, handing over the money with a smirk, her eyes boring right into mine.

“Won’t be a moment.” I said uncomfortably, glad when I had to move over towards the brand-new, extra-technical coffee machine, which I had successfully used a grand total of four times, after almost breaking it in attempts to make a coffee without any clue what to do. I began making the coffee, quietly humming ‘autumn leaves’ by Ed Sheeran to myself as I did so. I placed a lid on the cup and handed it to the brunette at the counter.

“Thanks, Ariadne.” She smirked, turning on her heel and promptly walking from the café.

Well that was weird. I thought, watching her figure descend from my vision.

“Hey! How’s it going babe?” I sighed at the nickname, looking to my left to see Alex leaning on the counter and Keegan lifting the cover for the cookies.

“I get off in 5 minutes.” I said, swatting Keegan’s hand away from the cookies and replacing the cover. “What are you two doing here?”

“Well, we thought we would have a movie night tonight! But we need to buy some junk food and get some movies, so we need your opinion on what to get.” Alex explained, as Keegan stared longingly at the plate of cookies.

“That sounds awesome!” I laughed, raising an eyebrow at Keegan. “Hey, if I can get through the day without eating all of those, then you can survive without one.” I said, poking his arm as his face fell and he moved away from the delicious cookies. “Where to first?” I asked, hanging up my apron and telling Abbie, my boss, that I was leaving.

“First, the supermarket!” Keegan exclaimed, grinning widely.

“Yes!” I laughed, running out the door to Keegan’s car, waiting impatiently for them to get in. “Food, food, food!” I chanted, giggling as the guys stepped into the car and we began driving.

“Okay guys,” Alex began, “we only need food for tonight, so please Keegan, and Sydney if you're anything like him this is for you too, don’t try to buy the whole store…”

“Awwwh.” I pouted, looking at Keegan and realising we both had the same expression on our faces.

“I’m serious guys, although I don’t doubt you’ll eat it, I really don’t feel like carrying it up six flights of stairs to our apartment.” He continued, glancing between the two of us.

“Okey dokey!” I giggled, quickly undoing my seatbelt as Keegan pulled into a parking space. “C’mon slow pokes!” I said, impatiently waiting for them to get out of the car. I ran into the store and grabbed a trolley, watching as Keegan did the same.

“What, no, guys… you only need one--” Alex tried to say.

“I'm sorry; I can’t hear you over the sound of all this wonderful food!” I shouted riding down the aisle on my trolley, Keegan close behind, both of us throwing food in our trolleys as we went.

“Ugh, I give up.” I heard Alex mutter, sitting down on a bench as he waited for Keegan and I to gather the food. I was now going to have some extra money coming in from my job, so I could now afford to buy lots of food for our movie night.

“Woo!” I screamed, standing on the edge of my trolley as it sped down an aisle, “You’re too slow, Keg—aaagh!” I screamed as I crashed into a pyramid of cat food tins. “Just go on without me, I’ll be fine…” I said dramatically, placing the back of my hand to my forehead as Keegan laughed and hauled me up. “Uh oh…” I murmured, looking over Keegan’s shoulder to see a very mad Alex running towards us.

“WHAT THE HELL SYDNEY!” he shouted, glaring at me as he tried to pry my trolley away from all the cat food. “WHY CAN’T YOU GO GROCERY SHOPPING LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, WHY MUST YOU TRY TO DESTROY THE STORE!?”

“Oops…” I mumbled, looking down as I rubbed the toe of my shoe against the ground. “I’m sorry Alex, I didn’t mean to…” I pouted, looking up at him with watery eyes.

“Oh no Syd, it’s okay… Don’t cry…” he said, pulling me into a hug. I looked up at Keegan and winked, before pulling back from the hug, my expression once again turning solemn, glad I had taken drama all through school. “Now hurry up and get your food, so we can leave…” Alex sighed, beginning to re-stack the tins.

“Okay, c’mon Keegan! I said, pulling him into the next aisle. “Okay, so I have an idea…” I whispered, looking around to make sure nobody was listening. I explained my idea to Keegan and he grinned, nodding as I looked around the aisle we were currently in. “Okay, you grab the supplies, take my trolley back and get the food. I’ll distract Alex.” I smirked evilly.

This was going to be fun.
