Chapter 13

ARI’S P.O.V

I felt my whole world shatter around me as the card fell to the floor.

He knows where I live.

I slid down the wall, pulling my knees to my chest when I reached the ground, burying my face in my legs in defeat. Just when I thought I had lost him, he’d found me. Just when I was beginning to feel safe, what was I even supposed to do?

“Syd? Where are you?” I heard Alex shout, his footsteps echoing down the empty hallway. “You okay?”

“Shoot.” I mumbled, wiping the back of my hand along my cheek and scrambling forward to reach the card I’d discarded on the floor, shoving it behind my pillow along with the rest of the package. “Umm, hold on.” I shouted, quickly standing up and straightening my clothes before quickly unlocking the door.

“Syd?” Alex asked, poking his head through the door, his features laced with concern. “Oh babe, you’ve been crying?” he said softly, making his way over to where I was standing and enveloping me in a warm hug.

“Alex we’ve been over this, I’m not your babe.” I grumbled, pulling back from the hug.

“I don’t see why you hate it so much.” He retorted, moving to sit on my bed, gesturing for me to sit beside him.

“It reminds me too much of that pig from the movie.” I answered quickly, not wanting to tell him it reminded me too much of my ex-best friend.

“It’s a force of habit.” He said, laughing slightly as I pulled a face in response. “I don’t even think about it, it just comes out. It’s uncontrollable.” He said, looking at me mock seriously.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” I said, poking my tongue out at him, my mind wandering. I felt better, until the realisation of what Toby’s package meant hit me. I could feel my face drop, my smile instantly disappearing.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Alex asked, watching me intently.

“Uh what?” I responded a little too quickly, “Oh nothing. Um, I think I’m just gonna call it a night, work tomorrow. I smiled weakly, focusing my gaze on the floral patterned duvet beneath me.

“Awwhh, but the movies only barely started!” He exclaimed, pouting slightly.

“Sorry mister, but hey, don’t tell me you don’t want the alone time with Kegs, gotta work on the bromance.” I said, wiggling my eyebrows suggestively.

“Hey!” he shouted, “Watch yourself missy!” he said, glaring at me, his hand whipped out from his lap so fast you could have blinked and missed it, and before I knew it I was under attack.

“NOO STOP, ALEEEX AGHH NO.” I screamed, desperately moving around, trying to get away from the evil boy tickling me. “STOP. OKAY. I’M—SORRY. JUST—STOP. PLEASE.” I panted, looking at Alex pleadingly.

“Say ‘Alex is amazing and I love him so much he completes me.’ And then I will.” He laughed, winking at me.

“I would rather listen to an entire Justin Bieber album!” I gasped, looking at him with mock horror.

“Ah well, I guess I can’t stop then…” he shrugged, moving his hands to tickle me again.

“NO OKAY ALEXISMAZINILOVIMSOMUCHHECOMPLETESME.” I shouted, mashing all my words together.
