Chapter 7
TOBY’S P.O.V
“You’re supposed to be at James’ 16th aren’t you?” I looked at Ari, confused. Suddenly it clicked. I hadn’t been in contact with James for almost a year after we’d gotten into a fight. I’d always felt terrible about what had happened, but I was too proud to go to him first, and he had never come to me. We hadn’t been in contact since.
“Oh Ari...” I looked down at her to see her staring right back at me, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“That was two years ago.”

It had been three weeks since the crash, and Christian and I had come out without a scratch. But Ariadne however; she had a few cracked ribs and amnesia. The doctors said that she should regain her memory over time, but I wasn’t too bothered, she still remembered me as the Toby I was before everything happened. And I was determined she wouldn’t find out. I was going to be Toby; her best friend. Not Toby; her kidnapper.
“Toby?” I looked up from scrolling through my phone to see Ari, trying to sit up in bed. Her ribs were still sore and she often found it hard to sit up, especially in the mornings.
“Hey there love, do you want me to make you some tea?” I asked, standing up from the couch.
“Yes please.” She smiled, setting a pillow between her back and the wall.
“Milk and two sugars, yeah?” I called from the kitchen as I leaned against the bench waiting for her reply.
“Thanks Toblerone.” She giggled, and I laughed at her nickname for me, she had called me that for as long as I could remember, it was cute. I gently stirred two sugar cubes into the tea and walked out of the kitchen. I sat myself on the bed next to Ari and handed her the cup.
“Thanks babes.” She said, placing a light kiss on my cheek before bringing the edge of the cup to her lips, wincing as she took a sip, the drink scalding her. I smiled at her and leaned back against the headboard.
“So what’re we even doing in London, Tobs?” She asked, looking at me out of the corner of her eye.
Christian and I had dragged her on a plane to London as soon as she was released from the hospital. The staff had been rather strange, not even attempting to find anything on who she was. We had been here almost three weeks, and to be honest, I was surprised she hadn’t mentioned it earlier.
“We decided to come for a little while before we start Uni remember?” I said, feeling a little guilty for using her amnesia to my advantage.
“Oh, but we’re only 16?” she said looking down, her eyebrows furrowed, before looking up at me again, her blue eyes clouded with confusion.
“Ari, we’re 18.” I said softly, watching as she crinkled her nose, clearly having a hard time understanding everything, and understandably too. I felt my mind wander and I found myself thinking back to the time went camping together. A small smile played the corners of my mouth as I thought back over the trip.
ONE YEAR AGO, TOBY’S P.O.V
“Balls.”
I looked up and laughed as Ari glared at the campfire, prodding the fallen marshmallow with her stick.
“Stupid marshmallow not staying on the stupid stick.” She continued, muttering obscenities at the now black marshmallow surrounded by the dancing orange flames of the fire.
“Here you go, love.” I chuckled, lightly throwing her the packet.
“Thanks, Toblerone.” She smiled, skewering two marshmallows and delicately placing them over the flames, her face set in concentration as she did everything she could to make sure they would stay on the stick.
