Chapter 14
KEEGAN’S P.O.V - EARLIER
“Hey, what time does Syd finish work?” I asked, turning to Alex.
“Uh, like an hour I think. We should probably start getting everything ready so they’ll be here before she gets home.” he replied, putting down the bag of chips in his hand on the coffee table.
“Probably, I’ll call them, you start sorting out the rest.” I said, pulling my phone out of my pocket and scrolling to the person I was looking for, pressing call.
“Hello?”

ARI’S P.O.V – PRESENT
I spun around quickly, my heart beating so fast I swear it could’ve popped right out of my chest. I debated going straight back out the door but I decided I couldn’t just leave someone in the apartment, for all I know it could be a burglar! I grabbed Alex’s baseball bat from the umbrella stand and held it in front of my body as I moved into the living room, holding it out straight as I reached up to flick the light switch on.
“SURPRISE!” I jumped, squinting my eyes from the sudden light. My eyes focused and I dropped the bat in relief. On to my toe.
“HOLY MOTHER OF GOD THAT HURT OH MY GOSH MY TOE AGHH!” I screamed, clutching my foot in my hand and jumping around to keep my balance. “Oh my god you guys scared the crap out of me what the hell?” I asked, wincing in pain.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY SYDNEY!” I was surrounded by people as they started singing ‘Happy Birthday’ directly in my ears.
“What? How did you even know? I never told you guys?” I laughed, sitting down on the couch and admiring the ‘happy birthday Sydney!’ banners and balloons hung up around the living room.
“I have my ways.” Keegan said mysteriously. I laughed, throwing a balloon at his head, to which he narrowed his eyes and threw it back, announcing war. Before long it had become a full blown attack where everyone was involved, throwing balloons and sheltering behind furniture.
“I will get you, don’t even try to get away!” I shouted, lunging myself forward and tackling Alex, tipping us over on to a couple of balloons, which popped at the contact.
“Sydneeey!” He laughed, pulling the remains of a purple balloon out from under his back and putting it on my head.
“I make no apologies.” I winked, getting to my feet and holding my hand out to Alex, pulling him up. “So guys,” I said, walking to the kitchen and grabbing a glass bottle out of the cupboard. “How about some drinking games?”
****
“Never have I ever…been skinny dipping!” I giggled, watching as Abbie, Alex and my friend Sophie from work each downed a shot.
“Ooh, my turn.” Alex said, “Never have I ever shared a bed with someone of the same sex.” I groaned, picking up the shot glass in front of me and swallowing the liquid quickly, wincing as it hit the back of my throat. I hated vodka.
“Well that’s me done, I’ve probably had far too much to drink tonight.” I laughed, struggling to get to my feet. Keegan stood up and grabbed my arm, steadying me and leading me towards the hallway. “Thanks for coming guys! I love you!” I giggled, “You can stay on the couch if you want, you guys have been drinking and it’s too far to walk.”
