Chapter 32
Four black cars pull up outside the school and one of the choppers hover over the roof. Fear rushes through me when one of the goons comes in with a loaded gun. All our guns are on the other side of the school and we don’t have enough time to reach them especially with three children and Hunter knew this he made sure he put the guns far away and more than that they don’t even work so we are in big trouble.
“Everyone outside now!”
We have no choice but to follow his orders so we hurry outside. I see my father and my mother holding hands.
“Well it appears that your game may be over” an unknown man says “My name is Dylan founder of the Redds and inventor of the game. I thought you would like to know we give you full permission to shoot Hunter”
Dylan throws Hunter into the dirt he looks bad he has a bruised eye, his nose is bleeding and his arms are battered and bruised.
“Go ahead dear he is not your legacy he never was”
“Who is my legacy?” I already know who it is, Stan the only person who can make Andy and Lucas believe this whole lie.
“Stan”
“Dad” Stan moans
“Now kill Hunter after all that’s what both of us want for this game to be over”
“You won’t hurt my family?”
“Just shoot him!” one of the goons hand me a gun but keep my family surrounded. This is it I could finally be free of Hunter but if I kill him I will never know the truth.
Dylan picks Hunter up by the scruff of the neck and throws him at my feet. He must think that I don’t have it in me to shoot him they are wrong I would love to put bullets in him but not before I find out the truth. I look down at him and see a can lying on the ground. I aim and shoot at it and Hunter flinches when the gun goes off.
“Shoot him!”
“Hunter I’m giving you a choice here them or your bother?” I have a plan if I keep him close I may be able to find out the truth.
“I chose Justin. Family first and always”
“Well Starlet it would seem I have underestimated you at every turn. My son’s right he would straighten you out”
I help Hunter onto his feet and he winces from pain, it’s amazing how much he is willing to do to get me to believe his lie. I lift the gun and shoot the goon standing over my family and Andy ducks as his shot goes off. I know that they won’t shoot anyone because they have what they want or so they think they have me in their grasp but really I have Hunter in the palm of my hand and he is not escaping.
“Well it would appear that the circumstances have changed once again” My father smiles
“But are you really going to kill your favourite game piece without me there is no game”
“Son, go get your legacy”
“I cannot wait until you realise that if I can’t have you then no one will. I’m not like Hunter I keep score ten incorrect behaviours and I’m sorry but as beautiful as you are you will spend the rest of your days rotting in a coffin!” Stan starts to walk closer to me
“You’re mine and I’ll fight any man for you including that precious hubby of yours”
“Don’t touch him”
Stan has reached me and pulled me to halfway so that everyone has the perfect view of what is about to happen. He knocks me to the ground.
“You might think you’re powerful and strong but guess what I’m stronger and that makes you weak Starlet!”
I notice out of the corner of my eye Hunter with Alicia and Andy is making his way towards us, Stan notices as well.
“Oh good I love it, come to save your beautiful wife”
Stan lifts his gun and shoots Andy and he falls to the ground. My whole world comes to a standstill and then I see Andy get to his feet, the bullet didn’t hit him but the can but he is still hurt. I scream at him to go back and he does. Stan just laughs.
“Well Starlet this is your new beginning and your new game”
He pushes his gun to my stomach and I hear a shot go off. Stan leaps off me and runs back all the way to his daddy I guess the bad boy is scared. I get to my feet and turn around and I think I must be dreaming because there stands Anna shooting. Every person I think is dead always turns out to be alive. Next thing I’ll see my uncle Gerald walking down the street.
Another shot is fired and Anna drops to the ground. I run to her and hold her hand and the last words to leave her mouth are
“The eagle always flies”
Hunter runs to me and pulls away from Anna who this time really is dead. I grab the gun and shoot Stan in the arm.
I run into the cover of the school with Hunter and Alicia. The cars disappear and I’m guessing they are going to take care of Stan’s wound. Hunter starts to check out Andy’s injuries.
“Andy has a shot wound to the arm, he needs to rest”
Lucas and Hunter bring him into one of the classrooms and lay him down on a mattress. I grab a chair and sit beside him.
“Starlet you should get some rest”
“No I’m fine I’m not leaving you”
“OK then hop in beside me” he pats the mattress motioning for me to come
“I’ll hurt you Andy”
“No you won’t you’re as gentle as a little lamb”
I roll my eyes and join him on the mattress, he wraps his good arm around me and cuddles into me and before I know it we are both fast asleep.
