Chapter 29

Souji: You're scarier than me when you're working. (look at the broken police car) Is the person in the car okay?

Souji's dad: Yeah. We made sure he was wearing a helmet. However, it shocks me how Ruby just appears like that and how Iris walks towards you in her shaken state.

Souji (touches his hand that Iris touches): Iris's hand wasn't shaken when she touched my hand.

Souji's dad: Isn't this the first time she saw you like that?

Souji: Yeah. (in his mind) She saw me with my dim eye during the mind training but not against another person to kill them but I'll keep it between me and my friends. (start walking to the police car) I'm not sure how Dad would react if he knew.

(inside the back of the police car)

Ruby (look at Iris while sitting next to her): Are you feeling more relaxed?

Iris (leaning back): Yeah. (look at Ruby daggers) So those belong to you?

Ruby: Yep. (after sighing) I wish I could have shown you them at school.

Iris: If I want to help the police do you think I'll be helpful?

Ruby: Are you saying that because you want to carry a weapon to get revenge?

Iris: No. My strength can be used to stop bad people and who knows I might be able to use a weapon.

Ruby: Looks like you're following Souji's path of life. However, your two situations are so different but alike.

Iris: If you don't mind. Can you tell me why your daggers are katanas?

Ruby: While deciding my weapon Souji's father notices I'm quick on my feet so having two weapons like daggers can help me block any attack from both sides. The reason why their katana daggers is because I wanted to have the same type of weapon as Souji and I can use the full side to knock people out.

Souji (after opening the back door): What are you two talking about?

Ruby (while getting out of the car): Iris was thinking of joining our job but I said we have to wait and see.

Iris (in her mind): I guess she wants me to keep that last part a secret.

Souji (sit next to Iris while Ruby sits at the front): Do you actually want to do that?

Iris (while the door closes before the car starts): I've been thinking about it. Since you're a gamer and a shadow for the police I thought I should help out.

Souji: However it's going to be hard because we'll be in a lot of fights that might flick our other side.

Iris: I know.

Souji (touches Iris's head): But if that's your final decision then we'll talk to my father.

Ruby (in her mind): He stole my line.

When the car reached Iris's apartment she wondered why they weren't stopping while noticing a moving truck that just closed the back before the person entered the truck.

Iris (look at Souji): Why didn't we stop? We just passed my house.

Souji: You'll see.

The car soon stopped at a flat and after they got out Souji grabbed Iris's hand taking her somewhere while Ruby followed behind.

(flat second-floor hallway)

Souji (after stopping in front of a door): Here we are.

Iris (after looking at the nameplate): Why is my name there?

Souji: My parents and I decided to be your guardian since you don't have relatives who can take care of you. My father brought this empty room so no one can know where you live and I asked him if he could do that for me.

Iris (pulls Souji's collar after grabbing it): Are you doing this because you and your family feel pity for me?

Souji (grabs Iris's wrist): No. They offer to do this because they want to be there for you if something ever happens.

Ruby: I know it was wrong of us to do things without your permission but his parents especially his mother are overprotective and stubborn.

Iris (let Souji go): We haven't known each other for that long but you're doing all this. What's your deal?

Souji (turns around touching the back of his head after sighing): I want to get to know you more. I know you know that I'm doing this to bring you out of the darkness but you're the first friend I have something in common.

Ruby (smiling): It's rare to see you embarrassed.

Souji: Shut it, Ruby.

Ruby: You're so defensive with your feelings.

Iris: I'm sorry for what I said. However (smiling when Souji just turned around) I'm grateful for everything you all done for me.

Ruby (hugs Iris by the neck): Aww. You're super cute like a little sister. (rubs Iris's head) I hope you understand that we'll do anything for our friend and we know you too will help us one day. It may not be now but that will happen someday.

Iris (blushing a bit): You all are way too nice.

Souji: What about you? You help a lot of people in UGO.

Iris: Want a fight?

Souji (smiling): If you want one I'll give it to you.

Ruby (stands in between Souji and Iris holding her hand out): Enough. It's getting late and Iris is still recovering.

Souji (after sighing): Fine. (while walking away) Always killing the fun.
