can't be friends

Emily's POV

JJ's been kind of down lately since the whole Elle thing and she hasn't really been doing much beside laying in bed, school, and soccer. I feel bad because I don't know how to cheer her up. It's like she's going through the process of grief all over again.

She's talked to her parents a lot on the phone and they've told her multiple times it wasn't her fault and that Elle was never her real friend.

I walk into the room after classes and JJ's standing there with a rose in hand.

"What's this for?" I smile. "Happy birthday." She says. "My birthdays not for another three days beautiful." "I know, but I wanted to spoil you the days leading up to it too." She grabs my hand and hands me a bunch of envelopes.

"Pick one, that's your gift for today." She says. "JJ this is so cute." I smile. "So are you. Now pick." She gets all giddy.

I pick one envelope. "Open open!!" She says.

"Are she of the other two for the next two days?" I ask. "No those are the things you didn't get. You'll have three new options tomorrow."

"Lemme see the things I didn't get first." I open one of the other envelopes. And a paper inside read "sex."

"Can I trade papers?" I quickly ask. "Nope." "What! Why- that's not fair." "You picked what you picked!" "But it's my birthday!" "Good thing you have 6 more options to choose from in the next two days." She says.

"Sex better be an option." I say. "I'll keep that in mind." She giggles.

I open up my next card and it was an ice cream date. "Wait aw that's so cute. Shit I should've chose this one." "Open the next one it's my favorite." She says.

I open the next one.

"Ice cream date, drive in movie, and sex ;)" It read.

"WOOOO!" I scream in excitement.

We sit down after getting our ice cream and cracked many jokes while doing so. JJ gets a call, from her mother I'm assuming. "Was that your mom?" I ask. "Yeah. She's worried." "Why?" "She thinks I'm gonna spiral into a whole depression." "Because of the Elle thing?" I ask. "Yup."

"I'm fine now though. I just needed a couple of days." She says. "Are you actually okay. Because you throw the words 'I'm fine' around a lot." I say. "Pinky promise." JJ says and we lock pinky's.

"What movie are we seeing?" I ask. "Good question. I don't know." "You don't know what movie you bought tickets for?" I start to laugh. "Well I didn't think we'd actually be watching it." She takes a bite of her ice cream.

"Naughty girl." I say.

"You know Elle blocked me on everything." I say. "I think she did the same thing to me. She knows she's wrong. I don't think I could ever be friends with her again." JJ says. "Yeah absolutely not."

"Do you ever think about winter break? How we are gonna see each other." JJ asks. "All the time. We will make it work." "Yeah we will."
