chapter twenty six — snow on the beach

We had been on the road for what felt like hours now and my stomach would agree as it kept rumbling, indicating that it needed food.

"Oh my god what that your stomach?" Jere's face looked a little taken back as I held my stomach in hopes it would stop.

"Shut up! I'm starving okay," I laughed, "All I've had today was an Icee and even I know that doesn't count as a real meal."

"Well lucky for you we are almost to pie," He grinned as my face lit up, we all loved getting pie it was one of our beloved traditions whenever we would come to Cousins and It had been so long since I had last tasted the sweetness.

"Rosie's?" He nodded.

"So you want to stop or..." I slapped him on the shoulder

"Is that even a question? Go!" I laughed as we pulled into the sweet little shop.

It seemed quite busy today, with many people interested in the variety of flowers that sat outside the shop but they didn't know what they were missing out on. I walked straight up to the counter and had a good look at all the choices we had.

"Okay, um- I think I'm going to get blueberry-"

"Blueberry." He spoke at the same time making me laugh, he knew me too well.

"Yeah, you could always read my mind, it's kinda spooky you know," I teased making him roll his eyes, I then pretended to read his mind by placing my fingers on my forehead.

"Hmmm, well, I know you aren't getting pie because you don't want to ruin your abs," I flexed my non-existence muscles in a way to mock Jere which he didn't find very amusing as he gasped in shock.

"I mean they are a service to mankind so," I hummed in agreement with a sarcastic tone.

"Liv?" I heard my name being called from a distance making me turn round as I saw my big sister from the Deb ball Nicole.

My face lit up as I ran over to her with excitement and embraced her in a much-needed hug. It had felt like ages since I had seen all the Debs but it brought back a wave of nostalgia which I liked. Jere came up behind me with a smile as he greeted Nicole but her face slowly turned to a look of sorrow:

"Jere I was so sorry to hear about your mom, she was so lovely," I watched as his face dropped before he swallowed the lump in his throat and agreed with her.

It was still a hard topic for him I could tell I mean, what are you supposed to say to that? It's not as if Anna herself could thank her but then again, Nicole was just being nice just like anyone else who would've spoken to both the boys.
