chapter thirty eight — up to no good

We had all made our way back into the arcade after deciding it was way too hot to be outside, I wouldn't be surprised if we all started to melt it was that warm. Kath and I had walked ahead of the others whilst I scanned the area for our next game of choice; my new teddy bear sat cuddled in my arms, the soft materials giving me a sense of comfort.

"I have to say, the look on Conrad's face when you beat him," Kath beamed with excitement, "It was priceless!" She spoke with satisfaction making me laugh.

"You can't tell me it didn't feel good?"

"It did feel good," I clarified with a smirk.

"I mean, after everything he's put you through." I felt my face drop at the thought of Conrad and me, Kath must've noticed as she quickly dropped the trail of thought.

We slowed our pace to a stop as I turned to look at my best friend, "Look, me and Conrad are fine," I half-heartily smiled but she gave me a look.

"Do you want to try and convince me again? Because you aren't fooling anyone," She looked me up and down with a sigh.

"As fun, as it may be for me and the others to watch you fight, I know it's killing you." I hated that she was right.

I could see Conrad and the others messing around between the arcade machines, the smile that laced his face; I hated that he wouldn't smile around me like he used to. I sighed before looking back at Kath who had a grin on her face.

"Look at you! You're like a lost puppy, you can't take your eyes off him!" She giggled as I gawked my mouth open at her accusation.

I scoffed, "That's not true!" Kath raised a brow before walking off towards the others.

I quickly followed in her footsteps and stood next to Jere who had his attention elsewhere. I met his eye line to see Conrad and Belly laughing as she whacked the teddy out of Taylors' hand. Taylor quickly found herself by Stevens's side which left the other two chat, the giddy laughs could be heard from miles away.

"Must be hard for you to watch," Jere had a mischievous smirk on his face.

"I mean, they're just friends laughing right?" I questioned with naivety.

"You won't be saying that when they're kissing." He walked off as he spoke leaving me dumbfounded.

I quickened my pace to catch up with the younger Fisher brother in hopes of continuing the conversation, what did he mean when they were kissing? Had I missed something? I found it hard to believe that something may have been happening between Belly and Conrad, after last summer and the whole confusion and crushes I thought Bells would've spoken to me first.
