✩ 𝐈 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔, 𝐈'𝐌 𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘chapter thirty five — watch me
"What about the boardwalk?" I heard Belly question as I turned to look at Jere with a knowing smile.
"Well, as long as you know I'm going to win right?" I put my hands in the air with a smug look on my face as the others scoffed.
"Oh no, you are going down," Steven gloated as he ruffled up my hair in a teasing manner making me swat his hands away.
The Boardwalk was another one of our many traditions that we would do when we were younger however, it seemed as we got older we didn't seem to do it as much. I was glad Belly had suggested the Boardwalk because I think we all needed a break from trying to save the house; it was clearly getting to all of us and tensions were high.
"Hey, you should come with us, Skye," Belly smiled, It was sweet of her to invite Skye.
"Oh, um, sounds very state fair," Skye scoffed as they turned to Aunt Julia, "I think I should just
stay with you, right?""No, wasn't my favourite, but you might like it."
"I shouldn't just stay with you?"
"No, I'll be fine."
I have to admit it was funny watching Skye trying to make an excuse not to come, I turned to look at Steven who was also suppressing a smile.
"Guess I'm coming with you guys," Skye's words were definitely full of enthusiasm as they got up and trailed behind us as we headed to the cards outside.
The front door opened as we followed one another outside in a single file; I watched as belly lingered with Jere making me smile as I closed the door ajar before catching up with the others.
Conrad tossed Steven the keys to the second car making me scoff, "I personally think I should drive for once." I pointed to myself as the girls agreed with me, I tilted my head with a look as I looked at Steven.
"No way, Conrad gave the keys to me which means it's me," Steven laughed as did Oakley which made me roll my eyes.
"You can't be trusted in cars anyways Liv," Conrad's tone was bitter as he turned to the car and opened the door.
"Are you kidding me right now?" I looked at him with a face of disgust but he couldn't even look at me.
"Guys can we not do this right now?" Steven pleaded, even Oakley's laughter had stopped. I bit my tongue to stop myself from saying anything more as trudged to the back of the car.
"Mom and Dad are fighting again," Jere sang in a sing-song tone making the other giggle as he joined me in the back of the car along with Kath.
Steven, Taylor, Belly and Skye made their way to the other car whilst Oakley and Conrad got themselves settled in the front of our car. The journey was full of chatter and excitement from the others yet I couldn't stop thinking about Conrad's attitude this morning. I would look at him through the mirror yet he never once glanced at me.
It wasn't too long before we had my it to the pier and everyone made their way out of the cars and towards the pier. It was full of everything a kid would want, rides, arcade games, and food, but for us, it was the competition that got us excited. There was no doubt that we were all competitive, especially when it came to games; no one wanted to lose because there would always be some form of punishment.
Rides shot past us with their bright lights and blaring music as we gathered our bearings. It wasn't long before Taylor started complaining about the heat again which gave us all an excuse to grab an ice cream which may I add, was the best thing I've eaten since we've been here. Belly and Conrad were at the front of the group, laughing at one another as ice cream dripped down Conrad's face. Jere must've seen it too because we both had the same jealous look on our faces.
"It's fun, I promise," I turned to speak to Skye who seemed to be less enthusiastic about joining in.
"Fun?" Jere chirped in, "Because I seem to remember the last time we were here, you were crying." I scoffed at his words.
"I was twelve okay?" I reassured Skye who laughed at our pettiness.
"Yeah and Conrad thrashed you at shoot your shot," Oakley grabbed my shoulder making me shake him off as I shook my head.
"Her penalty was to ride the Tower of Terror."
I remember it very well because I threw up after I came off it and I had to sit out from riding any of the other rides which I was bummed about. Conrad sat with me the whole time whilst everyone else continued to go on the rides; he even won a teddy for me which I still have to this day.
"Susannah used to force my mom to come here when they were kids," Skye spoke as they continued to eat spoonfuls of ice cream, "My mom always hated it, but Susannah loved it so much, so..."
"Do you know what else my mom loved?"
Here we go again...
"The beach house."
I scoffed because this man did not know when enough was enough, it wasn't Skye's fault that the house was being sold, and there was nothing they could do to stop this futile situation. I went to speak but Oakley put a hand on my shoulder with a pointed look.
"My mom's not evil, Conrad, and your mom wasn't a saint," No one missed the look that Jere and Conrad gave Skye but it needed to be said. This pent-up tension between everyone was already taking a toll on us all and this wasn't helping.
"Skye, have you ever played shoot your shot?" Belly questioned, once again diffusing the situation.
"No, and I 'm-I'm fine keeping it that way."
"Well, do you want to watch me beat Conrad's ass?" I chipped in with a grin on my face making Skye smirk as they nodded.
The girls giggled as I turned to look at him, "You could not do that," His voice was full of venom as he set his ice cream down and walked towards me.
"Watch me," We were inches away from one another, not daring to break eye contact. He finally gave in as he turned away from me and began walking to the game; I smirked as I followed after him.
The others trailed behind us with knowing looks on their faces, "This isn't going to go down well is it?" Kath questioned the others, ice cream in hand.
"No," They all agreed in unison.
