bonus chapter — look how far you've come

"Liv hurry up!" My brother shouted from downstairs.

I picked up the heavy boxes with writing scribbled all over them and carefully opened the door with my foot. I could barely see where I was walking, so I felt for the stairs below before slowly going down each step, praying I wouldn't drop anything.

Suddenly I lost my balance causing one of the boxes to slip from my grasp, I cursed under my breath waiting to hear the damage however, it never came. I opened my eyes, cringing as a familiar grin greeted me.

"You should watch where you're going, Livy." Conrad scoffed as he took the box out of my hands with ease, his muscles flexing as he did so making me roll my eyes at his cockiness.

"Thanks." I followed behind as he led me to the car where he loaded my things into the boot alongside some of his things.

"Is that everything?" He asked, to which I nodded, my hands on my hips, as the others trailed outside for one last goodbye.

"I can't believe the two of you are leaving again so soon," Belly frowned as I held my arms out for a well-needed hug; the girl eased into the embrace as I stroked her hair with a smile.

"We will visit all the time, promise," I reassured her to which she nodded.

"You don't have to." Groaned Steven jokingly, at least I hoped.

"Who said I would come back to see you?" I laughed as I put my hand out to do our signature little handshake. The boy hesitated before suddenly engulfing me in a tight hug, taking the air out of my chest.

"I'll miss you too Steven," I giggled as he pulled away with a warm smile.

"You let me know if that Jerk does anything okay?" He pointed towards Confad who looked insulted.

"Yeah, I can't believe you're willingly going to the same place as him," Jere chirped as Conrad smacked him playfully around the head.

We all said our goodbyes which had been done too many times this summer but I knew that this was the last time for a little while well, that was until we got bored and came back home to endure the chaos. Going to Stanford with Conrad was something I didn't expect to be doing this summer, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but perhaps it was the change we both needed.

I gave my mom a tight hug, a soft smile laced on her face as she stepped back so we could get into the car. I stepped into the passenger side of the car as Conrad got settled into the driver's seat. I let out a breath as I turned my head to see the others standing in a line, the biggest grins on their faces which made me feel warm and reassured inside.
