chapter forty — haunted 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
I drove down the roads following the car in front that had the others in ensuring that we all made it back to the house. The hues of red struck my face from the blaring lights outside as I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel to the radio that softly let out music.
"I can't believe I'm actually saying this but today was really fun," Steven chuckled, breaking the silence between the three of us.
Lee nodded his head in agreement, "It was, I mean, did you see the look on Liv's face when we won? I'd pay to see that again she looked so pissed," He laughed, as did Steven as their hands collided with one another, and a satisfying clap echoed in the car.
"Today was so much fun," I also agreed not paying attention to the looks the two gave each other.
"Yeah?" Steven beamed, "Man, I haven't seen you this happy in a long time."
"I don't know, I felt like a little kid again," I smiled to myself, today was fun, it was the break we all needed to just let ourselves be kids I mean I may be eighteen but the responsibilities of an adult weren't fun for anyone.
"And I know that my mom only ever wanted us to be happy."
"Well, I think today proved your mom right, you and Jere had a great time," Lee smiled from the back as he patted my shoulder.
I saw Steven and Oakley give each other the same look again making my brow tort to confusion, was there something they knew that I didn't? I hated that they knew something I didn't or were thinking the same thought but I hadn't caught on.
"Okay, what's up with these looks you're giving one another?" I turned my head quickly with confusion before keeping my eye on the road.
Steven swallowed before nodding at Lee as if he was giving him the all-clear to talk, "Not that we want you two to start things up again," My face laced with confusion as Steven coughed and patted his chest.
"I do," He smirked as Lee punched him roughly on the shoulder making him rub his arm as he kept his mouth shut so Oakley could speak.
"We just noticed a vibe," He let out a breath like it was killing him to speak, "Between you and Olivia," He tilted his head waiting for me to say something.
Was there a vibe? I'd like to think there was, but I was also being a bit of a dick. I couldn't help myself it was so satisfying to watch her get all worked up because she was very competitive, it was kinda cute. She would pout her lips wanting to get her way, her face would scrunch up which highlighted her freckles. But then I'd remember all the times we fought and I fucked things up, like at prom, or the funeral.
