✩ 𝐈 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐔, 𝐈'𝐌 𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐑𝐘chapter thirty six — resisting temptation
The great boardwalk showdown had been declared, something we hadn't done n for years since we were all band for being too competitive. The others blamed Conrad and me for being band, but we all secretly knew they would also get competitive.
"Okay, teams, teams," Steven hollered as we all looked around at one another.
Since we were the oldest, the team captains had always been Conrad and I, so it only made sense to carry on the tradition, which delighted me. Conrad had already taxed Steven which was obvious yet disappointing because he was great at some of these games.
"Kath," I chose, not that it was a hard choice, my best friend squealed before standing by my side with a smile.
"Jere," Conrad gestured for his brother to join his team as I scoffed; of course he picked Jere, I could see where this was going already.
"Belly."
"Lee."
"Taylor."
Conrad and I shared a look as it came down to the last person, Skye. There was no way I was letting him take Skye, would it make the numbers uneven, yes. Do I care? No.
"I should actually, um, head out," Skye went to turn but I shook my head frantically as I finished off my ice cream.
"It's too late, you're already on my team," I smiled, Skye may have not wanted to join in but I knew they would do well in this showdown I just had a feeling.
"Fine, you win, but I don't do high fives," Skye raised their hand in a mocking tone, I could tell Conrad wasn't phased that he didn't have Skye on his team but I knew this could work to my advantage.
"I'm not going to, like, whoop in the air," The boys held back their laughter as Skye continued on, "I don't trash talk, the corners of my mouth might turn up just a little bit," Skye pointed to their face, "But I'm not gonna smile."
"Whatever floats your boat Skye," I chuckled as I went to walk on but was stopped by the irritating sound of Conrad.
"Woah, woah, woah, this isn't fair you have more teammates than us!" He pointed with a displeased look on his face that made me smirk.
I crossed my arms as I titered my head, "Aw, is Connie scared he's gonna lose?" I pouted as he rolled his eyes, "You'll live."
"So then what's the prize?" Skye questioned with a hint of uncertainty.
"Losers have to buy the winners the biggest bag of candy of their choosing," Jeremiah spoke confidently but I couldn't help but screw my face up.
Don't get me wrong, when we were younger that big bag of candy was the biggest bribe for us all and we would do anything for it but now, well, it felt a little silly,
