The Reaper didn't come back from the roof, leading me to realize that he had probably left us to fend for ourselves.
Bastard.
I kept my eyes on the clock, fingers tapping anxiously against the marble countertop. With every tick another flash of that vision appeared in my minds eye. Dread filled my every nerve.
All those people... and the coven... they were all in grave danger. How was I supposed to stop it from down here? I had very little leverage. And zero skill at politics or solving mysteries. I was known for keeping to myself and staying away from risky business.
I had been so lost in thought, that I didn't recognize that Sam had sat himself beside me at the kitchen island.
"How you feeling, Cor," he asked with a heavy sigh.
"Not great," I answered truthfully. "But how are you? How are your wounds? Are they healing?"
He snorted. "I'm fine. I've been hit before."
"There's something that's bothering me," I said slowly. Sam frowned curiously, as if urging me to continue. "Levi. Where is he?"
Sam's face became grim. "I don't know, but my first guess would be the Morningstar."
I grimaced. "I hope not," I breathed.
"If Levi's with the Morningstar, then we should expect the bastard to use him against us. I could see if Des can try and search for him in the Tower," Sam said tiredly.
"I wouldn't reach him through your own line, sweetheart. Hell knows who's listening in."
Delilah's smooth voice seemed roll into my ears like waves.
"Who asked you again," Sam bit angrily.
"I'm only trying to help," she purred.
She had been naked earlier, but had decided to put on one of the Reapers silken bathrobes. I could guess why she hated roommates. Probably because her roommates hated her.
"Well we didn't ask for it," Sam growled. "Go back to taking other people's things without their permission."
She gave a sensuous laugh. "Down boy," she sighed. "It's not like the masked crusader is here to tell me off. Besides, I'm sure he has more important things to do than to be a buzzkill."
"Why did you even help us," I asked firmly.
Delilah smiled. "Why not? It sounded like fun."
I shook my head, not believing that she'd insert herself into this shit show without a valid reason.
