"Stop doing that, you're making me nervous", Ajax told me as we waited at the table for Simone, Jason, and Maya to arrive at the diner. "I'm sorry", I said then stopped tapping my finger on the table.
He turned towards me and lifted my chin, connecting his lips with mine. It was an innocent kiss but it made me relax. I deepened it which made him groan.
"Oh come on guys!", Simone's voice reached my ears making me pull back. "Sorry", I said while standing up and smiling. I pulled her in a hug while Jason shook hands with Ajax. Maya looked nervous but I figured she had a bad day so that must be the cause of it. I hugged her anyway.
"So where's your plus one?", Simone asked Maya. "On his way. He was five minutes out so he should be here soon", she said then took her phone out.
"What a lively bunch we got here. Hello everyone. I'm the famous Max and I will be your waiter tonight", he said with a huge smile. He handed us the food menu and then turned to me.
"Are these your sisters?", he asked. "Yes, they are. That is Simone and her boyfriend Jason and this is Maya", i introduced him. Maya's eyes turned predatory just for a few seconds making me look at Simone and we both started laughing. "What did I miss?", Max asked looking confused. "Oh, nothing Max. Thank you for the menus", Simone rushed to answer making me laugh even more. We gave him our drinks order and he left.
"He's a cheerful one. I like him", Jason said while going through the menu. "What are we having Ajax?", he asked Ajax whose hand was busy squeezing my ass cheek. "Well, I like the pork ribs but I think we can order a little bit of everything and share", he suggested then kissed my neck. "Stop that!", I whispered making him smirk.
"He's here. Let me go get him", Maya said with excitement then stood up and left.
"Babe isn't that?", Jason asked Simone who turned towards the entrance. "Fuck! Sis, please don't panic ok?", Simone said making me look where she was and there he was. Fucking Lawrence. What the fuck Maya!
I turned to Ajax and he looked calm. "I'm so sorry about this. I didn't think she would do something like this", I apologised earning a weak smile. "It's not your fault Brey. It's ok" he said calmly but I detected a hint of anger. Shit!
"Good evening everyone. Sorry, I'm late. When Maya told me about this place I had to come to see what the fuss was about", Lawrence said while sitting properly. "Oh really? So SHE invited you?", Simone asks sarcastically with her eyes on Maya. "Yeah, I hope you don't mind", Lawrence said. "Not at all", Ajax finally said then pulled his hand away from my body. It made me swallow hard.
I was ready for one of her 'one night stands' or someone from the cinema but Lawrence? That's just out of line.
The drinks came and we started drinking and talking about food. Well, mostly Simone and Jason did with Ajax adding a few words when they asked about the history of the diner.
"I'm sorry Ajax", I whispered to him and he just nodded and drank his beer quietly.
"Simone. Did you manage to find the male model you were looking for?", Lawrence asked Simone and her eyes went wide. Mine too. He never asked them about work. "You remembered?", "I mean yeah. You seemed frustrated last time we talked so it's kinda hard to forget", he said casually. I knew for a fact that he just said that to make Ajax feel left out.
"Well I got him and you won't believe how", Simon said and it was down to rambling lane we went, for some reason the conversation pulled Maya and Jason in as well. I turned to Ajax and he was just observing.
"We could leave if you want", I whispered and saw him clenching his teeth. "Welcome everyone. I'm Christopher", Ajax's dad said making me turn to him along with the rest of the table. "Oh my god! You two look like twins. It's a pleasure. I'm Simone. Aubrey's young sister. This is my boyfriend Jason. Our youngest Maya and this is Lawrence... the friend of the family", Simone said as Christopher shook their hands and finally reached me and pulled me in a hug.
"It's good to see you again", I said and he pulled away. "Same here. Have you ordered already?", "Yes. Thank you". "Awesome, let me go and take care of it then", he said then left.
The food came shortly after, while Lawrence asked for a fork and knife we just washed our hands and started diving in. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food just like I thought they would. An hour later the plates were empty and we were just talking about who liked what.
"Ajax! I'm a converted person", Jason said with his hands up in surrender. "Me too. We're definitely coming here again. Without you though. This music screams having a private moment with the most amazing man in this diner", Simone said then gave Jason a peck on the lips. "No complaints here. This was totally worth it", he said then kissed her temple.
"I'm glad that you like it", he said with a huge smile. It was like he was a completely different person. "So Ajax, how did you manage to bring our sister here?", Maya asked out of nowhere making Ajax's body tense. "What is that supposed to mean?", I asked and she smirked. "Oh come on Aubrey, you always go to five-star restaurants and you said it yourself. You prefer fancy restaurants because of the calm aroma. This is obviously the opposite of it so why fake it?", she pressed. "Maya? What the hell?", Simone asked.
"It's ok Simone. Maya's right. Brey might like high-end places but I think she agreed to come here because sh-", "She's desperate? I know", she said while looking at me in the eyes.
"What the hell Maya! Ajax, don't mind her, she's drunk", Simone tried to step in after Maya interrupted Ajax. "No, I'm not, I assure you. I just had one glass of cheap beer. Something I'm not used to either. Ajax, I'm gonna be honest with you", "Maya, let me give you a ride home", Lawrence said then stood up. "No. He needs to hear this. Aubrey is way out of your league so you better walk away now before she wakes up one day and returns to her senses i mean, you do know that you're nothing more than a rebound right?", she asked but Ajax remained quiet.
My hands were trembling and I saw people looking at us. I hated this. "I know it hurts but someone had to say it", she said then tuned to Lawrence. "I'm ready now".
"Ajax, Maya is just drunk. She does it all the time don't pay her any mind", Simone tried but one look at Ajax and I knew it was over.
