Chapter 28: Celebrating love

"Ajax, I know we haven't hung out for a while but we cannot afford to be late to Denice's party", I said when he started walking towards me with a predatory face. "Oh come on gorgeous, it will only take a few minutes. I'll be fast", he tried convincing me. "There's no such thing as you being fast and you know that so please, go get ready, and let's get out of here. Jenkins is waiting for us outside, he has been for a while now, and we don't want to keep him waiting", "Fine let me find the suit. Do I even have to wear a suit? Can't I just wear trousers and a nice dress shirt?", "No Ajax, that's non-negotiable. I told you already so please wear a suit. When we reach the party you'll see why I'm insisting you should wear one".

"Fine, give me 5 minutes", he said then went to his bedroom where I refused to go despite his invitation because I knew he would talk me into having sex... again.

I waited for him in the living room while going through my phone. I checked a couple of emails and saw that we had to travel for 2 weeks. Phillip wanted us to review a couple of strategies he wanted to implement in his branches. I just confirmed that I will be joining Justin then went to my Instagram page and started looking at random posts, liking what I saw was nice.

"We're ready, let's bounce", Ajax said while putting on his coat properly. I looked at him, he was wearing a royal blue suit. It made him look so sexy and the white shirt just made his eyes pop.

I swallowed hard and continued inspecting him until he cleared his throat, that's when I realized he just caught me staring.

"You know, we still have time and I can be fast. If you changed your mind that is", he teased making me roll my eyes and stand up. I reached for my purse and then started walking out. He smacked my ass right before I could touch the door handle making me yelp and then look at him. He ended up chuckling while reaching for the keys.

"I must say, ever since we started being together, I've had my fair share of parties. I never expected myself to be this comfortable going to parties but I guess being with you makes it all easier", he said while locking the door. I only replied with a smile.

We finally reached the car and as usual, Jenkins smiled at him as we got in. It took us 30 minutes to reach Denice's house, where the party was happening.

I have no idea why Denice loves entertaining her guests in her home garden because, if it was me, I'd rather have everyone swamp in a hall somewhere and not at my house. But she seems to enjoy hosting people... a lot.

"Oh my god! oh my god! oh my god! They're here! Alfred, come look. They look so cute together", Denice shouted the moment she saw us walking in. I smiled. I knew all the energy wasn't towards me, she was excited to see Ajax.

She rushed towards us and hugged him. He was caught off guard so he froze for a few seconds then he decided to catch up. It made me laugh. 

"Nice to see you again Denice. You look quite lovely tonight and this is quite a party you have here. Happy anniversary", he said while looking across the garden and then back at Denice. "Aaawww, thank you so much", she said while blushing.

The place was filled with people in fancy clothes who were either dancing drinking or eating. It was lively, just like Denice. "Oh, hey Ajax. Welcome to our home. So glad you could make it. I was hoping that Aubrey wouldn't pull her usual stunt on us. Bringing one of her sisters as her plus one. She has been doing that for ages and quite frankly, we are tired of it", Alfred said with a huge smile.

"Thank you, Alfred. Nice to see you too", Ajax replied matching his energy.

"You look very handsome tonight and happy anniversary! Oh, don't mind me... I'm just the person who brought Ajax here in case you hadn't noticed", I joked making us all laugh. "I hope you don't mind but Lawrence is here. You know he and I go way back, I couldn't not invite him to my anniversary", Alfred said making me look at Ajax.

He had a smile on his face and I knew it was going to be okay. "Not a problem at all", he said with a smile. "Okay so let's get this party started, where's the bar?", I asked Denice and she pointed at a distant place where there was a counter. I pulled Ajax to it.

We took our drinks and we were busy looking around when I saw some other friends that I knew from back when Lawrence and I were still dating. The ladies were busy looking at Ajax from head to toe. I'm willing to bet they couldn't control their lust over him.

"I see you've got fans", I said making him turn to look at them. "Oh please they have nothing on the real deal", he said then pulled me in a kiss. It made me smile in the kiss. I pulled back and looked at him in the eyes, we ended up staring at each other like we've always done.

"Okay guys enough PDA", Alfred said making me smile. "I apologize whenever I'm with her, I tend to lose my mind a bit. It's not intentional, I promise you", Ajax said making me laugh. "Either way learn to control yourself", he teased then we toasted.

The party went on. We danced, we ate and Denice even managed to squeeze in a couple of embarrassing stories about the old me and her to Ajax, something I was sure he was going to use against me in the future but I didn't care. All I cared about was he was there with me and he seemed to be enjoying himself.

Everything was going well until Lawrence walked past us and guess who he was with?... Giada, the girl that I caught having sex with him in his office where he used to have sex with me all the time. I can't believe they are still together.

Either way, I decided to mind my business but I don't think they got the memo.

"It's nice to see you again Mr. Firefighter",  Lawrence said catching our attention. Ajax only smirked at him. "Lawrence, don't man", Alfred warned making him smile. "I'm just saying hi, what's the problem with that?", he asked playing dumb. Ajax decided to ignore him.

I could see Denice on the verge of bursting so I turned to Alfred and signalled him to distract her. "Babe look, it's your high school friends, lets go say hi to them", he said while pulling her away.

"I had dinner with Maya a few days ago and there are a few things she had to say. Can we talk... in private", his tone was too serious for me but I agreed anyway. "Can you excuse us for a moment?", I asked and Ajax replied by kissing my temple.
