Chapter 14: The Kendriks

"Hey Sis, you look amaziiiiing", Maya said looking beautiful in her sleeveless black dress. "You look amazing yourself. He got you a glam team?", I asked trying my best not to say what I really wanted, considering other people were standing close to us. "Anhaa! How cool is that?", she said excitedly.

Maya always enjoyed the glam life, not having to work unless she had to. I wasn't surprised as to why she didn't recognize the fact that Lawrence was using her. "I thought you were ok with this", she said accusingly. "I was. I am, just not with you being his plus one to an event that I'm also attending, it's giving people mixed messages that we're trying to get back together or I'm considering it. I don't like it", I said honestly. She looked annoyed. "Well not everything is about you Sis", she said then walked away. I didn't stop her.

I had just finished greeting one of Liam's old friends when Denice showed up out of nowhere and hugged me. "I've been looking for you since I got here. Where have you been?", she asked stepping aside so I could hug Alfred too. They both looked really good and happy. "Well, Ajax was caught up at work so I had to wait for him", I explained making her face lit up. "He's here?", Alfred asked, he looked worried. I wondered what that was about. "Yeah, he's with Liam somewhere, no doubt getting a lecture about not breaking my heart", I said making them laugh.

It was no secret the Caddels were the ones that helped me with Fiducia, I owe them everything I have. If Liam hadn't loaned me the money I needed to kick off, I would have been just another person with an idea of how to change the distribution world.

"I thought you said Lawrence wasn't coming tonight!?", Denice elbowed her husband making him groan in pain. "Fuck babe! That hurt", Alfred said but I was sure he was being dramatic. "Sorry, but I had to make a point. Who is that talking to them? He is so yummy. If only I wasn't married", Denice teased making Alfred roll his eyes as I turned towards the bar to see Liam and Ajax standing with a pissed Lawrence.

"Shit!", I said louder than intended making Denice's eyes go wide like saucers. "Is that Ajax?", she asked. "Who's Ajax?", Alfred asked making me look away, trying to find a distracting topic but came out empty. "Aubrey's new boo", Denice said making Alfred smile. "You did good. What does he do?", Alfred asked. "He's a firefighter", I said while rushing to where the three were standing, I hoped that I wasn't too late because having a massacre in the middle of Liam's party was a no-no.

"Good evening gentlemen", I said interrupting Liam who was explaining something to an old man who was standing with them. "Aren't you a sight for sore eyes", the old man said making me smile. "You're not so bad yourself handsome", i teased making him smile. No doubt I just made his day. "Can I steal him?", I asked Liam, I could feel Lawrence's eyes looking at me but ignored him. "Yes of course", Liam answered with a smile then nodded at Ajax.

"Are you ok?", I asked Ajax who kissed my forehead. "Never better", he said interlocking our fingers as we went to where Denice and Alfred were standing.

"You must be the famous Denice", Ajax said making her smile. She loved attention so, it was expected. "Hello Ajax, I've been wanting to meet you for a while now. This is my husband Alfred", she said and Ajax shook Alfred's hands. We went on to talk about everything, including how Denice and I met. We couldn't avoid mentioning Lawrence because he's the one that connected us.

"I like you. If she brings you any trouble, call me ok?", Alfred told Ajax then gave him his card making me roll my eyes at him. "Snitch much!", I joked and we all laughed.

In an hour, dinner was served and we found ourselves facing Maya and Lawrence at the table. When my eyes met his, he looked pissed. I didn't care. "This tastes amazing, here try", Ajax said putting a spoon in my mouth. I ate it, it was chocolate cake with raspberry syrup, delicious. "I believe you. I need more", I said and he fed me another spoon until the cake was finished.

We were about to leave when Maya approached us. "Are you going to ignore me or finally introduce me to the famous Ajax?", she asked with an attitude. "Depends, are you going to continue with that attitude of yours?", I asked with a raised brow. She huffed then stormed away heading to where Lawrence was. "Let's go. I think I've had enough of this night", I said making him smile.

When we got to the car, I told Jenkins to take us to my home. Ajax didn't say anything. I rested my head on his shoulder as we drove home. Something about him gave me peace of mind every time he was around.

I think I'm in love with Ajax...

"Welcome to my... oh my god, close your eyes!", I shouted as we walked in on Jason and Simone fucking in the living room with the TV screen on. It looked like it started with a movie night then things got heated up.

"So sorry, we're covered. Why didn't you tell me you were on the way? Hi there! I'm Simone, this is my boyfriend Jason", she said while giggling. "Nice meeting you both. I'm Ajax", he said and I pulled him up the stairs not willing to remain there.

When we reached my bedroom Ajax started laughing. "It's not funny", I said making him laugh even harder. I went to the bathroom and started getting ready for bed. He followed me in the bathroom with only boxers on making me smile. "Thank you for going with me tonight. It meant a lot", I said biting my lip. "Don't do that Brey. It drives me crazy and I really am tired", he confessed then yawned. "Sorry, it's a habit", I said using his own words against him.

"You think you're so clever huh?", he teased while blocking me between him and the sink counter. "May be", i said then kissed his lower lip. Thank god his nose was on my neck making it easier to kiss him. He wanted to pull away, but I held my ground making him moan into the kiss. Two seconds later we were both naked under the shower. He helped me wash my hair as he pretended that his hands slipped all over my body making goosebumps emerge from his touch. It was my turn to moan.

We were getting ready for bed when a notification hit my phone and when I looked it was Instagram, i opened it and saw it was Maya tagging me on her photo with Lawrence at the party. I wished she could understand how angry and disappointed I was.
