"Mom?! What are you doing here?!"

"Mom?" Giselle mumbled to herself as she slowly began to walk towards the front door to see who caught Carter's attention.

"Are you okay? How did you get here?!"

"I—I called an uber! I'm so sorry to bother you, son .. I know this is completely unexpected."

Before Carter could respond, Giselle made her presence known in a delicate manner and immediately placed her hand on the small of Carter's back in hopes to calm him down.

"Hey, Mrs. Carter— please come in, it's chilly out there!" She finally spoke with a friendly smile. Allowing Carter to move to the side, Giselle reached her arm out to bring Gloria in and quickly took her coat and hefty travel bag before showing her to the guest suite.

"No I gotta figure out what's wron—" Carter demanded in a hasty tone once he saw Giselle leave the room.

"Baby can we just take a second, .. please?" She softly pleaded with her hand pressed firmly against his racing heart. "Your mother doesn't look hurt or seem in any immediate danger, so let's just give her a second to regroup and you a second to calm down before doing something you'd regret."

"Like kill my punk ass father?! Absolutely!" Carter exclaimed still riled up and ready to break away from Giselle's hold, but when he felt her grip tighten, he knew she meant business. "... Fine." He mumbled defeatedly before walking back to the kitchen to cool off.

It pained her to watch him struggle with the thought of wanting to ease his current anxiety with a swig of liquid courage, so she immediately spoke again to defer his unconscious behavior.

"I'll got check on her first to see if she needs any essentials." Giselle announced, "Do you need a hug before I go?"

Once Carter nodded his head, she moved quickly to his location and allowed a comforting hug to take place.

"I love you," She started after they shared a long kiss. "Whatever this is she's going through, we can handle it together."

As those words fell off her lips, she felt a breath get caught in her throat and her eyes suddenly sting with threatening tears. Just shy of last year, Giselle barely had a desire to live— now she was willing to fight a daunting battle with the love of her life? Crazy .. her mind voiced; the feeling of a deepened hug quickly shook her from her thoughts.

"Thank you, babe.." Carter managed to get out in a muffled tone, as his nose savored the sweet scent that lingered in the crook of her neck. "I love you more."

Letting their lips meet thereafter, Giselle pulled away to wipe off any transferred gloss, then headed back to the guest suite to check in— being sure to take a calming breath once her palm embraced the doorknob, since stress was the last thing she or the baby needed to experience.

"Are we doing okay in here?" She asked after initiating a few soft knocks on the door.

"Y—yes," Gloria started with shakiness still present in her voice. "I'm just trying to hang my coat up is all.."

"Here, let me help!" Giselle started by grabbing a spare hanger off the closet rack. "I'll do the tidying up if you promise to relax for a minute or two."
