The next morning..
As I'm checking my phone for any signs of a response, from past messages sent to Raelyn over the last few months, someone knocks on my door, catching my attention. Sighing, I look to the blank screen. I understand her need to distance herself, and clear her mind...but a simple message stating that she is alright, would be enough for me.. Narrowing my eyes in sadness, I sigh, and flip my phone closed, tucking it into my jacket pocket, before walking to the door and opening it. However, the moment I do, I see Hayley waiting. Remembering last night's slip-up, I stiffen. "...Hayley. Do you need something?" I ask. "I just wanted to say, your secret is safe with me." She says, making my eyes widen slightly. Shifting position, I quickly clear my throat. "Secret..? I have no secret.." I say, in case Klaus was listening. Hearing my words, Hayley scoffs. "Relax, Elijah. Klaus left earlier to give Marcel his blood for the Vampire he bit yesterday. It's just you and me here." She says, crossing her arms. "...I see.." I say, relaxing slightly. Seeing this, she gives a small nod. "Look, I can tell you want to keep what you had with her a secret. So, don't worry, I won't tell him anything." She says. I'm silent for a few moments, observing her expression. Seeing no hint of ill-intentions, I sigh in relief, and nod gratefully. "Thank you...although I fully intend to tell him eventually, I think it best to keep it hidden...at least, for now. If my brother were to find out about us too soon...well, to say Raelyn's life would be in danger, would most certainly be the understatement of the century.." I say, recalling dark memories from my past. He would destroy her, just as he did with.. I don't finish that sentence, even as a certain image rises to my mind. I will not let that happen again...not to Raelyn...I will protect her with my last breath..
"Do you think you'll ever see her again..?" Hayley asks, snapping me out of my thoughts. Sighing, I lower my head. "I do not know. What my brother did, as forgiving as she may be...killing her mother...might have proven to be too much for her to overlook.." I say quietly. "True, it was pretty bad, but.." she trails off, catching my attention. "But what..?" I ask. "In your memory, I saw the look on her face...the day she left.." she says, leaning against the doorway. "I'm sure she'll come around. Give her time." She says. "Of course. I already planned to give her as much as she needs." I say with a nod. "However, although it pains me to say it...part of me hopes that she never returns.." I admit quietly. "...why..? You love her, don't you..?" She asks confused. "It is because I love her, that I feel this way...were she to choose to stay...I fear it would only bring about her death.." I say sadly. "But...even as I say that...I selfishly cannot help but wish for her return.." I admit quietly, lowering my head. Shaking her head, Hayley sighs. "Well...judging from my third-party perspective...I don't think that's selfish at all.." she says. "From the way I see it, that just means you love her." She says with a shrug. Hearing her words, I raise my head to look at her. "Anyway, I've said my piece." She says with a sigh, before pointing over her shoulder at the room behind her. "If you need me, I'll be choking on clouds of dust over there, uncovering all the furniture." She says, before smirking, and walking into the other room. Sighing, I nod to myself quietly, before deciding to help.
