Matthew jumped out of the truck. I stopped running.
"Matthew. I need to show her something." I said pointing towards Maddy.
"Hayes. I know you wouldn't hurt her...but for me, I worry. She the only thing left I have that reminds me of my mom. Give her a break. My-Our parents died just last year. She's still suffering the pain. I hope you understand bro. See ya around." He said putting his hand on my shoulder. He made me feel guilty.
Like I was the one who cause their parents to die. My heart just dropped to my feet. I just let my hand wave and a smile wave at Maddy. She looked up with tear stained eyes. She looked back down.
Matt waved back. Right now I wish I would've kissed her right then and there if she didn't hate me.
In one week it will be the first day of school and I bet that all the guys will be lining up to see her. And I won't be one of them. I'm doing what Matt says.
But this time I'm going to protect her instead.
