(Equestrian AU if it took place in Jorvik lol)
Checkers impatiently tapped his hoof at the cross ties, moving around and tossing his head. Nokah had just finished a practice session with him and was rummaging through his tack trunk to find his hard brush. Once he finally fished it out he went over to Checkers to find he had knocked his bridle off of a nearby rack. Nokah groaned and picked it up, setting it somewhere the 5-year old couldn't reach before hurriedly brushing him and bringing him back to his pasture. Checkers nickered and ran back to his herd while playfully bucking, and Nokah smiled to himself.
He closed the gate and checked the time on his phone. His eyes widened. It was already four and Kane would be hopping off the bus from Jorvik City in twenty minutes. He practically ran back to the equestrian center and put all his things away. While cleaning his bridle Ranna peeked into the tack room and saw him scrubbing away. "What's gotten into you? You're never this excited to clean tack."
Nokah didn't look up from what he was doing. "I have to pick up Kane from the bus stop and I'm gonna be late," he put his bridle together neatly and hung it under Checkers' nameplate before stuffing a pair of wraps into the tack trunk and slamming it shut.
"Then get going, I'll take care of this," she took Checkers' saddle from Nokah's hands and placed its' cover back on.
"Really?" He asked.
Ranna nodded. "Yeah, yeah. Go on, you'll be late." She ushered him out, and Nokah thanked her before rushing over to his car and driving back to Silverglade village.
After a quick shower he made his way to the bus stop outside of Fort Pinta. It was 4:17, so Kane should be arriving any minute now.

Kane stared outside the window as the bustling city slowly turned into wilderness and gravel roads. It was nice to be back. He missed the atmosphere and the horses, but especially Nokah.
After competition season was over, Kane returned to Jorvik City to finish school, and that also meant going back home and seeing his family. His father didn't approve of him moving to the country side and abandoning working under the family brand, but at this point Kane didn't care anymore. He spent his whole life following orders and following his father's footsteps, staying in his shadow, and he had finally found a place with people who cared about him. He decided he wasn't going to throw it all away for his dad's approval, and that he was going to make his own choices in life.
As he drifted away in his thoughts, the bus suddenly came to a halt. Kane sat up straighter and looked around. They were caught in traffic and the road seemed to be closed. He sighed. He'd heard about the recent uprise in traffic around these parts, something to do with strange rifts and cracks in the road, but he didn't know it would be this bad.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket and checked the time. They should've arrived by now. He typed a message to Nokah saying he was running a little late due to traffic, but it didn't send due to the lack of service. He pursed his lips and put his phone away, sitting back with his arms crossed over his chest. It was going to take awhile so he might as well get comfortable.
