Casual - Chappell Roan
Kane didn't know what time it was when he woke up, but he knew that it was too damn early. Rays of sunlight escaped through the curtains of the window and blinded him as he sat up, enhancing his severe hangover. He groaned, trying to rub the grogginess from his eyes as he gathered his bearings, then his eyes went wide when it hit him.
"Crap," He muttered, rubbing his throbbing head. His mouth was dry and felt like a desert, and his throat was sore and swollen, probably from screaming his lungs out all night. The gig had been a great success, and the group must've celebrated a little too hard.
Or rather, he must've celebrated too hard, because he then realized he hadn't been sleeping in his own room, but Nokah's by the looks of it.
He hurriedly got out of bed and began frantically getting dressed, stumbling around and trying not to knock into anything. As he zipped up his pants he was able to get a better look at the room. Last night it was too dark─ and he was a bit distracted─ but in the light he could see posters and art everywhere, some of them he recognized, but others he didn't. A lot of them looked homemade. He also noticed a bunch of CD's and cassettes stacked in the corner, some were open, and the discs were missing.
It didn't look too different from Nokah's room when they were teenagers, he still had the same interests and passions as before. Kane glanced at his messy desk with a few empty cans and pens lying around, the only thing that seemed to be in place was a sketchbook neatly sitting in the center.
Kane paused for a moment. He wondered if Nokah still had those old awful sketches he made of him, or notes from the shitty songs they wrote together.
He shook his head, grabbing his shirt and pulling it over his head. It was a stupid thought, and he didn't have the time to think about something as insignificant as that.
He patted himself down once he was fully dressed, making sure he had all his belongings with him. Keys, phone that was blowing up with way too many notifications, wallet─
Kane whipped his head around, checking the floor and shaking out the covers without trying to mess with them too much. The only thing he couldn't find was his leather jacket, which he could've sworn he wore that evening. Mar'li had complimented the Heathens patch he'd recently sewn on for it, but he had a feeling she was only teasing since the stitch-work was sloppy and not the greatest.
He ran his hands through his hair, trying to retrace his steps, though it was kind of hard to considering everything that had transpired. Where did he put that thing?
He walked out into the hall and the small living area of Nokah's apartment that was seemingly empty. There were some things scattered about and clothes lying around, but he still couldn't spot the jacket or Nokah for that matter.
The lock to the front door turned with a click, and Kane spun around as it opened, startled.
A boy who looked to be not much younger than him stepped inside, carrying a cardboard box that had something scribbled on it. His long sandy red hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and a pair of earbuds were stuck in his ears. He hadn't noticed Kane standing there yet, and he closed the door behind him.
When he finally turned around and looked up, he jumped, nearly dropping the box. The contents inside rattled a little, and his surprised expression quickly changed into an uncertain smile. "Kane?" his voice sounded familiar, and Kane blinked, then realized.
"Arlo?" he asked, stunned. He'd changed a lot since he last saw him.
Arlo laughed awkwardly, pulling out his ear buds and stuffing them in his pocket. "Sorry, I didn't expect to see you here," he walked over and set the box down on the counter. Floral charms dangled from his ears, and he had very faint eyeliner that looked days old. Some freckles had faded, and his features seemed to have grown sharper and more refined, no longer looking so round and childlike.
