Albus
When I woke up, I was in a familiar room and my hand was heavy on my side. I sat up in my usual bedroom in the Burrow and found Candice holding my hand tightly beside me.
"Oh... okay..." I was relieved. As soon as I chuckled, her eyes turned into confusion, "Sorry, I just had a bad dream." I gulped and she squeezed my hand, "I'm fine."
"What did you dream about buddy?" I almost jumped at Mason and Jason along with Scorpius on my other side. It was Mason who'd asked.
"Huh?" My chest tightened, "What? What does that mat-" Behind the boys was another bed, in the double bedroom that I usually shared with James and that was where Lily was laying down with Rose by her side along with Hugo and Lysander by her feet.
"It's true." I whimpered at James' voice by the opened door, "It wasn't a dream."
"They're... dead?" I asked and though pale, he walked ahead to me, "You're joking, right?" I laughed and just then a punch landed on my face. The anger in the punch was forced, I could tell. He was clenching his teeth with a trembling figure, "Hey!" I tackled him, forcing him to the floor, and punching his face back.
"Stop it!" Mason and Jason pulled me back while Scorpius and Lysander held James back.
"Albus....?" Lily had scrunched away by the wall. We shrugged off the barriers and as if we'd planned it for the outsider's eye, both raised hands to pull her out of her shell. Taking her hands, we walked out of the room. I could hear people behind us as we walked down the steps and finally reached the dining room where Grandpa and Grandma sat, talking with the other elders. Despite them being there, the person who took Lily in his arms was Teddy. He picked her up with one arm under her knees and the other hugging her to his shoulder with an arm around her shoulders.
"Where are they?" I asked.
"Preparing for the burial." Teddy spoke and Lily whimpered with a moan.
"My dear boy." Grandma Molly hugged me so tight that I'd almost forgotten that this wasn't Mum. Her scent matched Mum's somehow and I was painfully reminded of this curse.
"I can't... how... why..."
No answers were given and soon we lost our voices as well. I didn't know what to ask, say, or believe anymore. It felt like only yesterday was Mum excited about the treacle tart pies in the fridge and the fact that Dad had taken a few days off from work. How did we come to this? Suddenly, we were orphans. Just the word made my knees buckle. Orphan. It meant I had no parents anymore. All our godparents approached us. I watched Lily succumb to Uncle Eddie and James being consoled by Uncle Ron and Aunt Hermione. Uncle Neville and Aunt Luna sat with me, both quiet, as if knowing that I'd speak when I could. I appreciated that. They knew my flavor of life.
"What's on your mind?" Aunt Luna asked.
"Angry. I'm frustrated and I don't know what to do." I gulped and Uncle Neville rested a palm on my head.
He didn't say anything and I just rested with them. I knew they were in pain too. Mum and Dad were their best friends too.
What felt like centuries later we found ourselves facing an unbelievably large funeral. Even the crown was present. They all gave their condolences and honestly, I was blank through. Lily was completely silent and James was somehow mature in the situation along with Teddy. All four of us were listed as the Potter family.
