James
I'd always known Dad's nature. Always questioning, suspicious, skeptical. He never gave a chance to the new of things unless he knew where they were coming from.
I didn't blame him for doubting us. We hadn't given him much to trust us on. On top of it all, we were intervening with the most important aspect of his life.
Mum.
Dad always said that he became more solid after he made Mum his ground zero. She became something he needed to protect and that way he was able to build his life around his family and more.
I thought that was just husband-talk but it became more believable when we had the death experience. I always believed since the incident that Dad could've easily survived that night. He could've taken all those intruders down, even without his wand. But he didn't.
He was so lost in mum's death that he'd forgotten to manage anything else.
One would call him selfish. He gave up his life because his wife had died and didn't care about his children.
But I just called him Harry Potter.
If anything were to happen to Ari, I knew my brain would freeze as well. And I didn't even know the extent of our relationship. They had been married for years, he loved her. Dad's past, his trauma, it all made him this skeptical, scary man.
"Do you really think Ginny can find this book?" He asked in the silence that followed the room. His eyes matched mine but drifted to Charlus as he finished the sentence. Guess we were at odds.
The fact that Dad and Mum had both not reacted to Charlus and Belvina meant that they were not seeing what we were. And that was probably Merlin's courtesy because neither of us had set any spells on them or given any potions.
"Yes." Charlus answered and with this Dad's eyes turned back to me. I couldn't help the smirk.
"Something funny mate?" His frown deepened. Teddy rubbed his eyes.
"Just..." I chuckled, "You're young."
"James." Teddy mumbled as if calling me out to stay quiet.
"What-"
Before Dad could lose it entirely, Mum came back and clapped hands, looking around as if wondering what she'd missed.
"Ready?" I stood.
She nodded and Dad sighed before following me to the floo. He stood by the connection and matched my eye.
"What?" I asked.
"This doesn't go to Hogwarts. Do you have a plan?"
"Oh."
"Oh?"
"Oh, it'll go."
"Pardon?" Dad seemed threatened by me now.
"Shreaking shack? The floo connection there." I winked and he seemed irked by how I knew that.
"How do you know that?" He frowned.
"I told you. We know things. We are aurors and telling our identity isn't going to be of any use."
"I mean they are british." Mum shrugged and Dad could only pout.
Dad's silence was taken as the cue to leave so we took the floo connection to the shreaking shack. As soon as we landed, i managed count of the crowd and everyone walked out safely.
