Candice
"Mason?" I approached the visibly sweaty dude in a navy blue three piece suit with a navy blue cravat tucked under his white shirt collar.
"Oh, hey." He gulped, "You look gorgeous, by the way."
"Thanks. You look sweaty."
"Yeah?" He rubbed hands on his pants.
"Take off your jacket if you are hot." I offered.
"I'm scared if do, everyone will see my sweat pits." He mumbled, and I could only roll my eyes at him.
"Why are you so nervous?" Albus asked, standing behind me.
"I... to be honest, I don't want Jason to ask me for a dance."
"Why not?" I pouted, "Everyone knows he's dating a man. What's the worry?"
"I... I don't think I'm ready... I know we'll be humiliated, and I..."
"Hello." Just on cue. Bad timing. Jason smiled, reaching us, and Albus and I congratulated him, "So, I was wondering..." He seemed adorably nervous as well, "It's... time for a dance and..."
"Oh, did you hear? Can has been saving her first dance for you." Mason called, and I frowned. Albus sighed with a dropped head, and I knew he didn't want to expose Mason either. Jason's smile faded, and he picked up on the hint.
"O-oh." He looked away, "Erm, then Candice, would you join me for my first dance?" He seemed saddened as well, but I nodded anyway, taking his hand.
As we reached the center of the dance floor, Jason seemed down, but he kept his eyes on me.
"He doesn't wanna dance with me, does he?" He asked the dreaded question.
"He's just nervous to come out right now." I reasoned. He nodded, "But are you comfortable with telling the world that you're dating him?" I mumbled very lowly, "I mean I love you both but I'll take your side." He snickered, almost sadly. It broke my heart a little. I always had this guilt in my heart that I didn't treat Jason right at some point so I always hoped that whoever he found next was the best of everything. Thinking it was Mason was a joy beyond reason for me but watching him now, I questioned my best friend's heart more than anyone.
"Yes." He looked at me, "As sure as I would've been even if it'd been your everyday relationship like the one I had with you." I smiled at his response.
"A lot has changed, Jason. It's wonderful that you've found each other after everything you've gone through, but now, your status has changed from miles on earth. You're a prince, next in line to be the Crown. He's just worried that he'd ruin things for you."
"I know." He slumped, "You look beautiful tonight, by the way."
"Well, I had to wear the dress his highness sent for me." I winked at him.
"You're my best friend, Candice, and I dont think I'd be here if it hadn't been for you."
"Jason, you have to stop thanking me for bringing you to the group." I laughed.
"I still remember our first meet." He snorted, "So demanding. I don't think you asked me out. You just ordered me to do it."
I cackled.
"At that time, I was actually a little intimidated by you, but then you turned out to be such a softy."
"That's why you fit Albus the best. He's as intimidating as you." He shook his head, and I blushed, feeling giddy. Eyes lurked around us, and I could see a set of blue eyes staring wide at us. Her Highness Ariana had a smirk on her lips.
